Rice is directly in the center of one of the largest cities in the United States. There is always something to do if you are willing to explore a bit.

Health & Safety:
Rice, like most colleges, has its own police department. The officers are friendly and are there to ensure the safety of students, not bust them for petty offenses.

There is no pressure to drink or do drugs at all. Those who partake enjoy it. It can be a little uncomfortable at times if you don't drink, but that can be easily remedied by finding a peer group with similar interests.

Rice is a fantastic school. My peers are outstanding people and are the reason why Rice has such a great community.

Many of my peers received large amounts of financial aid. I however, did not receive any aid. That's not exactly true, as Rice offered me a small amount but then took it away after I reported outside scholarships.

Rice has a shuttle program to Target and Rice village on the weekends which is convenient. The cashier's office will give you a free "q card" for the metro light rail which has a station just across the street from campus. The best way to get to the airport is by taxi or airport shuttle. Taxis are much more expensive (about $60) while supershuttle will run around $25.

Rice has no greek life.

Nice new rec center with lap pool and leisure pool, weight and cardio room, squash and basketball quarts, a ton of nearby tennis courts.

Lots of good restaurants nearby in Rice village - a campus shuttle takes students to and from on the weekends. Also quite a few restaurants near the metro rail and otherwise accessible by car.

Hot August/September. Coming from Colorado, I miss the snow.

Rice offers shuttle services on the weekend to Target and local grocery stores.

The campus is strict in certain aspect of social life such as underage drinking but mostly only when it comes to "hard" alcohol such as liquor.

I don't go off campus much but there's always something fun to do in Houston. The campus plans events outside of the school in order to encourage students to explore the city.

Thanks to the generous donors to Rice University, I am able to attend school with an amazing financial aid package. Rice accepts on a need-blind bias which means they don't look at family income until after the student is accepted. Then, they cover anything that they expect the family not to be able to afford which is quite a lot in some cases.

Our school greatly emphasizes diversity in all areas. The atmosphere of the campus is so welcoming and open minded that people are nothing but themselves here. It's a great place to meet people with similar interests as well as completely different ones. Everyone has respect for one another and is accepting in every way.

I'm not a giant sports fan but a lot of people get pumped up for game days. There's tailgating, free food, a student sections to cheer our teams on, and big crowds huddle into the stadium. It's a fun experience.

They have a lot of variety at every dinning hall and the chefs are always reaching out to students and asking in what ways they can improve. A couple of days after students respond, you can usually see the chefs implementing the suggestions.

It's always pretty warm, even in the winter. But in the summer the humidity can become overwhelming

Most weekends have public parties that a lot of the student body goes too. There are also private parties before.

The actual computers are very nice. There's just not enough of them

Houston is a cultural hub with SO many restaurants and cultural opportunities. From visiting the Houston Zoo or the Fine Arts Museum, to attending a Brazilian festival, to going downtown to a cultural restaurant, there is always something to do. Really far downtown by the UH station is a little sketchy though with several panhandlers, but if you walk with a group you should be fine.

The extra financial aid I got made the difference between being able to afford attending here and having to go to my state school.

So good! There's always something good to eat at the dining hall (we call them serveries). You have to get a meal plan with on-campus housing anyways, but it's really good, especially when compared to other university dining.

HOT in the spring, summer and fall. Moderate in the winter.

Rice has just about any major that you can think of.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
