Grads Entering Job MarketAdvice
- Don’t feel like you have to have an internship every summer. Many students feel this kind of pressure, but remember that you have the rest of your lives to work real jobs, and you are still young. Some Rice students use their summers to travel, to rest up from a hard year of work, or to experience a more “fun summer job” (summer camp counseling, white water rafting river guide, whatever). However, it cannot be denied that padding the résumé and making connections through internships will give you a big one-up on your competitors when it comes time for a real job search. Also, make use of Career Services as soon as possible. They offer guidance for all stages of the process, including choosing a major, thinking about career choices, building a résumé, interviewing, and salary negotiation.
