It's Alright

RCC is like all other community colleges. There are great teachers, and horrible teachers. There are great programs that help students but also forgets other students. It gave me the requirements I needed to transfer, but the classes were too easy and now I'm going to stay longer at the university. I'll never forget the great teachers I had where I actually learned something in their class but I will also never forget the classes where I wasted my time and money.

Honors Program

RCC has a great Honors Program that will make sure you take the right classes in order to transfer as soon as possible. There's an application but it is really easy to get accepted. The thing I hate about the Honors Program is that it can let some students slip through its fingers because a requirement is to have a 3.0 or higher. Some good students that want to transfer don't have that GPA because they may have other issues to worry about like work, or taking care of their family.

Ask for Help!

I think the education I'm receiving is alright compared to how much I'm paying. Some teachers are enthusiastic and want to teach while others are just there to make money. I got financial aid and it helped a lot but I didn't this last semester because there was this rule that no one told me about. It turned out that I didn't get my financial aid because my declared major, IGETC for CSU, on WebAdvisor only needed 30 units. In reality, CSU needs 60 units and when I exceeded 30 units, the college said they weren't going to give me financial aid anymore because I should have already graduated. I found this out by one of my peers. I wish that the counselors told the students what major to declare if you're transferring that will give you financial aid in the first place so they didn't have to go through what I went through.
