It's not bad at all. People can choose to do it, or choose to avoid it. There have not been any situations where people are forced to do things they don't want to do.

The teams are average. Since we are not a division one school, we do not always have the best players. School spirit is alright, most people come out when free food is offered.

The school gives out great scholarships at freshman year, but when the next year comes around it is difficult to find new scholarships.

I would of chosen another school for several reasons. The first being that Salem, Virginia is a poor and decrepit town with little nightlife, attractions, or shopping. It is a functioning town because of the school, but I would be pressed to say it's a "college town". Secondly, the school is very small which creates the atmosphere of high school. I attended a very small high school and I can find many similarities in the social functioning here compared to my high school. You will know everyone you probably will ever meet at this college after 3 months and they will know you, as well as your personal life. Rumors still exist at this school and reputation is important to keep up. If you do not get into the Greek Fraternity or Sorority that you wanted to get into, you're social life will be greatly effected. Thirdly, the Campus Police "Campo" unlike past years, has become very strict. In the past 2 months, 8 of my close friends have been written up more than once. They are allowed to room search or enter any room at any time if they are "suspicious". This suspicion can be anything from food burning in a room, having more than 3 people in your room, as well as "Campos" habit of stalking out areas where they believe people will smoke weed. If you believe they don't want to get you in trouble, you are very wrong, if there is anything they can find to write up - they will. Many people I know want to transfer because of its strictness and general high school atmosphere. Unfortunately transferring is very difficult here because many of the courses don't transfer as a credit. If you can avoid the unfortunate situation of being stuck that I am currently in, then I would suggest you do so.

Lately I am questioning why I went to college.

There are a lot of parties at Roanoke. There is underage drinking, but it is kept undercover. Designated drivers are provided to keep everyone safe though.

In each major here there are wonder faculty that are very skilled in their fields. Most of the majors provide opportunities to have an internship or research in your fields of interest.

There are many different opportunities to study at Roanoke. It is based off of a liberal arts education, everyone has to take classes that are not related to their majors to expand their education.

Alcohol visibility is present after a weekend when there are beer cans and solo cups laying around. Most students do take part in the party scene. Drug usage is not as present as alcohol though.

Parking is very limited. The parking lots are overcrowded except for one lot. Parking is strictly enforced as well

Dining service is great. They have good quality food and typically they have a variety of options. The only downside is that there are only 2 places that students can eat on campus.
College Sophomore 2013-11-03T01:38:13Z
Computers are pretty good on campus. Most of the labs have the newer/ newest technology on them. Printing is limited which makes it difficult, but overall the computers and technology are a high point

Greek life is very present on campus. Although Greek can have its plus sides, it is very cliquey, Greek life tends to keep to themselves in most situations. It causes a very evident division of Greeks and non- Greeks.

The off campus dining is very limited if you do not have a car on campus. Without a car, there are only 4 or 5 restaurants that someone could go to. The quality and price of theses restaurants are good, but the better restaurants are farther away from campus.
College Sophomore 2013-11-01T04:40:29Z
Being a local and accustomed to the area, I like off-campus dining. Most of the restaurants are locally owned and very accommodating. They have student discounts available and try to cater to students at certain times.

While there are computer labs available, it is best to have your own laptop with you. Many times professors will encourage the use of electronic devices in order to access the materials they are using. The school gives each student a $50 printing allotment per year. This is what they have deemed as average printing cost and more can be purchased by the student based on need.

Parking on campus is actually pretty good. There are clearly defined areas for each type of student, allowing students that live on campus to park closer to dorms. Parking permit cost seems pretty average to me at $75 for a full year.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
