My Rc

I love learning curriculum at Rochester College I am doing the CEL learning at the Mott Campus and I am enjoying the material that I am learning and the instructors are very well prepared and are very helpful and understanding, The only thing that disappoints me is I can not stay at Rochester to get my masters and PhD. I will miss going to school under Rochester once I graduate, however I know I will be prepared to do my job thanks to the teachers and curriculum requirements of Rochester.

Elementary Education Major

I have wanted to be an elementary teacher since as far back as I can remember. Before choosing Rochester College, I looked into the teaching program that they have there, and it sounded wonderful. I enjoy the small class sizes that I have seen so far in my classes. The teachers that I have worked with are great and I look forward to having the opportunity to do a "field study" at one of the local elementary schools in the near future.

Great Christian Environment

Overall I would say that I like and choose the college because of the Christian heritage that it has. Though it is not technically called a Christian college anymore it still has that type of feel that gets promoted all the time.

Malls Galore

We have several malls nearby, each mall has different restaurants, whatever you feel like eating is always within walking distance. We even have a 24 hour Dunkin Donuts/Baskin Robbins on the same block so if you want a midnight energy boost you can easily walk there.

Sophisticated Living at an Easy Cost.

Downtown Rochester has endless possibilities. Great food everywhere. A lot of diversity. You could get a coney dog and a beer at one place or have a fine italian meal right next door. I can't count on two hands how many great places (not fast food) there are in the community.

Safe!!

I have never seen any safety issues on our campus. At the same time, we don't really have campus police or security, we only have security guards at night to keep the doors locked, and to let people in past curfew.

Small School

The school is very small, and it is a Christian atmosphere. The professors are there to help you, and the classes are very small, so the professors know you by name. Everyone knows everyone, and most of the students are friendly. I don't feel as if there is a lot offered, however, it seems as if the things they do offer are studied in great depth. The religious classes are especially interesting.

well, being a commuter, i have the occasional trip that takes a little longer than expected because of the weather, but since the temperature has been pretty mild, i find that it isn't too bad to drive in and out every day.

Diversity at RC

At Rochester College we get many international students. It is very comforting to see them being accepted into the RC community without hesitation. We are very accepting of anyone that comes to RC as a student or even just to visit.

Parking

There is not a lot of parking areas on campus. However a lot of parking is not necessary with such a small campus. One issue that concerns me is the lack of parking near the gym. Parking near the gym is reserved for faculty members only however I find myself near the gym a lot and it would be nice to have a closer area to park.

They Have Options

As an adult learner, I am typically coming to school right from work in the evenings. Having something available to eat for dinner is important, and RC has several options on campus. There are also several places nearby to grab and go.

As a working adult, it is important to me to get the education I need while balancing a full time career and family. The work we do at RC is valuable and relevant, but the professors are patient and appear to be willing to work with students.

My Experience So Far

My Experience at Rochester College as been amazing. I have loved every year that I have been here and I look forward to moving back on campus every fall. There are great opportunities to get to know people, and it's not hard to find a friendly face. One thing I love is that when you walk down the sidewalk you can pretty much smile and say hi to everyone you pass and it won't be weird. Definitely thankful for my decision to go to RC.

Dont Come Here If Your Serious About Grades

Overall most of the teachers are pretty knowledgeable and do a decent job however there are certain other aspects that make this college not worth coming to. First if you’re serious about have your grades reflect your true academic standing this is not the place to go. Eight of your credits during your four year tuition are what they call convocation credits. These are phantom credits you get a grade for that do not stick to your transcripts but affect your GPA. Basically it’s a chapel program and there are no exceptions for anyone.

In my case I live about an hour from the college and commute because I can’t afford to stay on campus. I purposely over the last four semesters have placed my classes on only two days out of the week. Once again I did this because I can’t afford the gas to be driving out to class more than two times a week. Unfortunately in my case only one of those days they have convocation on and I cannot make the other day it is scheduled for. Being smart people we all know what happens when you only get 50% on a credit and that is an F. I have had to take F’s for the last four semesters. A smart person would tell me “why don’t you just explain your situation to the Dean?” Well I’ve already done that multiple times and all I ever get from him is “well if you go to the ones you make then you should be just fine.” Clearly he either doesn’t understand the system at all , which he should because he’s the Dean or he’s just a ridged person who doesn’t make exceptions which I’ve come to realize is more likely.

Well by reading the above you may ask “if you hate it so much why don’t you just transfer?” Simply put I can’t. I could if I felt like losing 15 credits in the process because they make you take 5 classes worth of Bible credits that will not transfer anywhere. That’s a lot to lose.

It didn’t use to be like this. When I first started attending chapel was not a graded requirement. Since they have made it a graded requirement I’ve missed the deans two times now list because of it and I was on track to graduate with honors which I would have if it was not for the convocation program but now it’s going to be close because I’ve had to take F’s four semesters in a row.

I regret ever coming here and I’m trapped from transferring out. So now Rochester College here is my chance to give a F to you.
