Quick Stats

Best Ways to Get Around Town SMART buses
Best Ways to Get to the Airport
  • Really, the best way to get to the Detroit Metropolitan Airport from campus would be to catch a taxi. The cost may be around $35. Trying to get there (or back) by coordinating SMART buses would be too unwieldy for most to tolerate.
  • The other option is to have a friend/relative drop you off in their vehicle. You may want to offer them some gas money, but you won't have to pay a taxi fee (which may be elevated depending on traffic conditions).

Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Being as the campus is relatively small, transportation on campus is not particularly an issue. Most of the Detroit suburbs are serviced by SMART (Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation), but there are currently no buses that run into Rochester Hills. Bus routes are available at the SMART website (www.smartbus.org), or you can call their information center at (866) 962-5515.

Students should bear in mind that, if they live on campus, Rochester College has a curfew, and any off-campus excursions should be completed earlier in the evening if possible. Students who travel by bus should make sure that they are able to get back on campus on time.

Facts

Local Taxi Services

An assortment of taxi services can be found in the local Yellow Pages and through the Internet.

Did You Know? Metropolitan Detroit does not have a comprehensive, region-wide transportation system. As of 2012, there exists a proposal by Michigan Governor Rick Snyder to create a network of "rapid transit" buses that would serve four of Southeast Michigan's counties, including Oakland County, where Rochester College is. The proposal would be to have such buses travel expedited routes to get people cross-town and cross-county in a much faster manner. Currently, any practical legislation has yet to be passed to legislate the proposal. Rochester residents are, by default, dependent on SMART buses or taxis as far as paid transit.
