Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

If the rigors of a technical education are getting to you and you feel that there is no other way to relieve the stress, then you will always be able to find the “stress reliever” of your choice. Normally, there are not high amounts of referrals or arrests due to student drug use, and the most prevalent drug on campus is marijuana (many think it should be legalized, anyway). For the most part, drug use on or around campus is a rare sight, and students who use drugs have their own dealers and do not involve the RIT community too much.

Overall, there is not an abnormally large drug culture at RIT. Most students who use drugs do so “recreationally.” That is to say that most RIT students aren’t hard-core drug users—they use marijuana in social settings, not in public. There are not many students who use harder drugs, and very few have chemical dependencies. The campus does offer drug and alcohol counseling for students who have problems and want to quit. The Campus Health Center can make arrangements for students to see counselors on campus (confidentially, of course) and can also make arrangements for off-campus treatment if necessary. Normally though, many academically-stressed RIT students find other ways of relaxing themselves, including catching a movie, grabbing a warm cup of coffee, or throwing each other in the trench-like mud puddles that form on campus after week-long rainstorms. Now if that doesn’t relieve stress, I don’t know what will!

Policy

RIT has pretty strict alcohol and drug policy. Every student who busted drinking alcohol underage or using drugs, the student's parents will get a mail notification and the student will be sending to Student Conduct Office. The student will receive a consequence from the student court based on the case.

Also, RIT only allow an apartment to have an alcohol "event" if all residents in the apartment are above 21 years old. Dormitories are completely banned any alcohol "event"

Depends on Who You Ask.

A lot of people might tell you there is no drug of alcohol presence on campus... they would be wrong. It's there if you want it, but if you dont want it, thats fine too. Although, getting caught with it in the dorms can be bad if it happens more then once.

Drinking Is Common

Drinking is very common on campus, at house parties, etc. Campus safety doesnt bust too many parties but if they do they usually just ask you to leave or take the party down a notch. Ive never had to run or give my name or anything like that. And other than drinking, people will be smoking, but not too much drugs other than that.
