On campus dining is convenient and cost effective for the food you are getting. They offer a variety of choices, including vegetarian and vegan options readily available. They mostly serve sandwhiches, but they are constantly offering new specials and items to their menu including hot choices like flatbread pizzas, and build your own burgers. The service is always amiable and willing to help if your not sure what you want.

There are a couple of shady bar/dining halls, but mostly it's fast food for convenience. There is a Jimmy Johns, and Chipotle but eating at those everyday can get expensive.

Health & Safety:
Security is always friendly and walking around surveying the campus, the parking lots and the surrounding streets near campus. If you are on campus late at night you can ask them to escort you to your car. There are also emergency call boxes located near both parking lots. It makes me feel secure.

The online degree program is the best ever. Getting your degree while your at home at your own pace is perfect. Tuition isnt that expensive either.

I've changed my major from Graphic Design to Illustration with ease this semester, and will begin specific courses in a few weeks! You are able to start right away with classes designated for your major, while balancing required gen ed. The curriculum is designed to not only teach and grow you, but PREPARE you for graduation and post-grad careers in the art field, which is wonderful. The professors are decorated professionals with years of experience, the space is wonderful to work in in that they encourage a highly functional creative environment.

RMCAD is set in a sketchy Lakewood neighborhood. However, once you are on campus, you feel completely safe and separate from the neighborhood. The campus is VERY quiet (especially now during the summer semester) and is very clean, beautiful, and quaint. Everyone knows the campus police officers personally and they do a great job of patrolling and making their presence known throughout the day and night. They can walk you to your car if you need them to, aside from the standard emergency call boxes.

Having moved here from the south, and commuting from Boulder to Lakewood (Denver-Metro area), the snow can be quite annoying. The RTD and lightrail definitely come in handy during the snow season(s).

Aside from the real life and career prep classes that are offered for all majors (including extensive critiques and gallery space/student exhibitions) general ed classes are average, with the exception of a "Financial Principles" class meant to be entry level math...it is very difficult, one would not pass if they are not motivated to attend study sessions.
College Senior 2013-07-24T03:35:23Z
Nightlife? The "nightlife" at RMCAD usually exists only during midterms and finals, and only because everyone is in the labs using the cintiqs burning the midnight oil to get their projects done on time. Other than that and the occasional gallery, there isn't a nightlife at school that I've ever seen.

RMCAD has patrol cars that are constantly on and around campus. The security guards are friendly and very helpful (My car broke down and they helped me get it running and find transportation while it was being fixed)

It really depends on where you're living at, but it isn't too bad from what I've seen. The public bus system isn't great, but it will get you there. The lightrail is reasonably close, but you'll have a bit of a hike from the station to school (About a mile) which is fine so long as you don't have a ton of art supplies. I've never had an issue with parking as the campus is really small and there are overflow parking spots available.
College Sophomore 2013-06-08T19:42:12Z
RMCAD doesn't have a "campus" lots of students live at Regency Student Housing, which is AWFUL! the food is a little below average and even during the summer there isn't food being served so any kids still staying here, like myself, have to pay even MORE MONEY to buy EXTRA food because the 1200 dollars we paid for this meal plan doesn't count for the summer so now we have to starve. which is just ABSURD!!!!!!
College Sophomore 2013-06-08T19:39:16Z
School is fairly strict, the one downside is the attendance policy. We're only allowed 3 absences which really affects our grade and is very stressful because i know that i get sick often but we have to force ourselves to go to school and do our work even if we're feeling very under the weather
College Sophomore 2013-06-08T19:37:38Z
So many things for students to do and be involved with. There's always different activities to get everyone together
College Sophomore 2013-06-08T19:36:09Z
i don't drive to school so the parking isn't an issue, but it doesn't look to be an issue because the campus is so small and there is extra parking outside the premises
College Sophomore 2013-05-14T00:37:49Z
i receive scholarship money but need a lot more because it's going to be very difficult to attend school and work to support myself.
College Sophomore 2013-05-14T00:31:35Z
The campus is very small and old they don't have a lot of on campus living and no program or director to help students find off campus living. This school is highly engaging so there's not enough time to pay for a place on my own without some assistance. If I did live somewhere I could afford it would not be in the safest area, especially for a female and in an area where a killer just kidnapped and tortured a young girl down the street, which apparently happens often. Parking is limited at the school and surrounding area.
I would love help finding a financially affordable place or be matched in a roommate situation
College Sophomore 2013-05-14T00:26:49Z
There construction that has been on every road and the highway, which makes getting anywhere limited and difficult. There's only one light rail coming from the opposite direction that goes close to campus. There are buses but have a difficult route and time especially with all the construction that is supposed to continue for two more years.
College Senior 2013-04-28T05:08:59Z
I personally have no experience with the school's transportation system, however I have a lot of friends that use the RMCAD bus that goes to and from the Regency, the only dorms offered. They tell me the bus system have plenty of departure and arrival times, as well as being a comfortable ride if you don't have a lot of things to carry. If we had larger shuttles, then it would be even better.
College Senior 2013-04-28T04:49:50Z
I am one of only a few of the minorities on campus. Granted this is a small school, but the diversity here is horrendous. Also it is to be noted that this is an art school, so a lot of people tend to have the same attitude about things, so there isn't a lot of room for debate. There are also a lot of people who come from privileged backgrounds, so they don't exactly understand what it means to have no money at all, which can be frustrating at times.
College Senior 2013-04-28T04:44:31Z
The Underground Cafe is the only food choice on campus minus vending machines, however it is delicious! They can get a little pricy for the amount of food you receive, but it's still good and depending on what you buy, worth it. They have plenty of drink options, ranging from hot tea to soda, as well has a wide range of snacks and sandwiches. The tables get a little crowded during lunch, but there is usually a lot of table options spread out through the campus. If you do not want anything in the cafe, you have the option of Winchells, Viva Burrito,Casa Bonita, and Walmart are all within walking distance of campus.
College Senior 2013-04-28T04:31:53Z
There are multiple labs all over the campus, so there isn't any crowds. Our wonderful TechBar updates every computer on campus at the end of every semester. They have all of the most recent programs a student needs. If there is a new version of Photoshop, they will have it. So you don't need to waste your money buying a new up to date computer, unless you want to take electronic notes in class, the campus has got you covered on this front.
College Freshman 2013-04-10T16:18:02Z
There is RTD bus transportation available. I have a car.
College Junior 2013-03-14T16:54:42Z
It's pretty laid back. There are pretty strict policies about damaging property and art, and there's a strict speed limit of 10 mph, but otherwise it's pretty open.
College Junior 2013-03-14T16:52:13Z
There is a very wide range of diversities here, all of which are accepted (at least from what I've seen). Yes, the majority may be white, but in reality that's the entire state. There are various different sexual orientations which is supported by our LGBST club and no one judges. VERY positive.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
