Overall ExperienceWhat's This?

The most beautiful and inspirational part of RMCAD is the campus itself, with its hometown feel, squirrel chatter, and fresh colors in the summer and fall. But that's just what you can see right away. Eventually, you delve deeper into the excitement of learning something new and unique about your own personal way of self-expression. There is a great sense of discovery and an energy felt throughout the College. The energy flows through sitting down to mold a piece of clay on a wheel to capturing that well-thought-out shot with the camera to translating your imagination into a drawing. Most of all, students thrive on being able to share all of these things with like-minded peers. Sharing your art and allowing it to be critiqued is what really makes you grow as an artist, as well as a person. Being around peers and faculty that have immersed themselves in their respective fields is truly the most amazing part of RMCAD, making it like no other college. It's not just an institution for learning: it's family.

RMCAD is definitely an experience. Set against the backdrop of downtown Denver, it's the ideal location if you want to get away and not sacrifice convenience. That is not to say that just because you go here that you are on "Easy Street." The classes and workload are challenging for both the mind and body. And just like all establishments, RMCAD has its own share of quirks and problems, but in the end, what you put in is what you get out of it.

More Difficult to Get Into the School Than Any of the Programs

Getting enrolled in the school involves an interview, which I found to be the hardest part. After that, each major requires either a strong portfolio or an essay detailing why you want to declare that major and so on. I declared my major from the start, but it's possible to enroll in the school and then declare later, I believe.

Changes in the Blink of an Eye

This area of Colorado is a tornado zone, but other than that, there's nothing particularly dangerous about the weather. When it snows, roads are cleared very quickly. The people that live here are used to driving in rain, too, so that's fine. The hail can be distressing if you don't have covered parking.

What's most notable, though, is how it can be 90 degrees one day and start snowing the next.

Major: Interior Design

I am in my 2nd term at RMCAD. I have, so far, really satisfied with my education. I do feel that for my drafting class, the workload is a bit heavy considering it is online and most (if not all) of us are taking online courses because we work full-time. Because of my work schedule and the drafting projects taking hours to complete, I have fallen behind for two consecutive weeks now. The instructor doesn't seem to be too familiar with the online process, there seems to be some confusion about "drop boxes" and uploading assignments on his end.
