The athletic department at Rollins receives a minimal amount of attention. Rollins certainly has many exceptional athletes, and varsity teams often rank well in their divisions; however, students don’t usually have a clue when it comes to Rollins athletics. Since there is not a football team at Rollins, students lack the same school spirit found at other schools, where students treat sports games as their primary social events. Rollins has an abundance of sports teams such as baseball, basketball, soccer, lacrosse, tennis, golf, volleyball, cross country, rowing, softball, sailing, water skiing, and swimming. Student athletes are very dedicated to their teams, and without a doubt, they deserve more attention and more support.
On the contrary, intramural sports are quite popular at Rollins. Students who do not have as much time to dedicate to a varsity team often join an intramural sport. Because Rollins doesn’t have a football team, many students take advantage of the intramural football team. There are many ways for students to get involved with athletics, whether they want to join a varsity team or just play a pickup game of beach volleyball.
