Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Students at Rollins don't typically complain about the food on campus. The meal plan at Rollins is good for all on-campus restaurants, as well as Domino's Pizza. The main dining option at Rollins is located in the Cornell Campus Center: the Marketplace. This hall is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and though the specials vary from day to day, students can count on the salad bar, sushi bar, and multiple soup options. The Marketplace closes in between lunch and dinner, and for the night around 8 p.m. Underneath the Marketplace is the C-Store, the campus grocery store. The C-Store sells all essential snack items and also has a sandwich bar with daily specials. Even after the C-Store closes, The Grille stays open until 1:45 a.m. The Grille is notorious for its greasy late-night snack food. Beware: The Grille is also notorious for making students gain the Freshman 15.

One thing students should watch out for is the food prices on campus. The Rollins meal plan puts money on your R-Card each semester, and if students don't pay attention, they run out of money quickly and have to start mooching off friends or call home to Mom and Dad. Although stocking up on groceries at the C-Store is convenient, it is also costly. A small container of fruit will cost you anywhere between $4 and $6 in the C-Store! Students are much better off hitting the grocery store or 7-Eleven now and then for food.

Sodexo

At the campus center, cornell cafe, and dianne's cafe, sodexo makes and serves the majority of the food. It can be generally repetitive but it is definitely highly quality food.

Pretty Good

The food in the campus center is usually pretty good, but can get a little boring after awhile. For lunch, I would recommend sandwiches from the C-store. If you are by CSS, you can usually find something pretty tasty (mmm Panera bagels). The library cafe and Diane's has pretty good coffee and snacks.

Food or Your Wallet?

As I walk through the glorious halls of Rollins College, my stomach begins to sing its song of desire. I begin to walk to the mess hall when a thought springs to life. Do I have enough money? I take out my wallet and frantically search its contents, $5.67 is all that I could find. I hope it's enough as I walk into the mess hall. As I look at the food I realize that the money that I have will only get me a drink and a very small snack. My stomach screams in hunger as I am forced to only feed it a small portion. Now not only am I still hungry, but I am completely broke.

My review for Rollins College's Dinning is that the food is exceptional and I enjoy eating there. However, for a college student's budget, it is way to expensive. The prices for a simple fruit cup are almost $7.00 and that's usually all students carry around with them when they wish to purchase food from their campus dining hall. In order for Rollins College to sell more food and attract students who do not live on campus, they will have to lower the prices by at least a dollar or two. This will not only make campus dining more popular for the students, but it will also have them spend more if they see they can get more for their money.
