College Prowler Take
Rollins requires all students with fewer than 60 semester hours to live on campus, which essentially forces most freshmen and sophomores to live in the dorms. For a college with immaculate facilities, the dorms are a source of disappointment for students. Many freshman dorms have tiny rooms and always seem dirty, despite the genuine efforts of cleaning staff. The dorms that have been recently renovated appear to receive raving reviews, but incoming students shouldn’t have to fear getting assigned to the still-lacking older dorms. Due to dorm dissatisfaction, students often fight for a spot in Sutton Place Apartments. Here, residents are chosen through a lottery, which takes class year and GPA into consideration, and those provided with a room seem happy with having their own kitchen and more private living space. Despite the fact that many criticize the dorms, for freshmen, dorm life is an essential part of integrating into the Rollins community. Living with a group of new students forces fast and often long-lasting friendships. The dorms become the center for social life, and dorm parties can be more exciting than both bars and clubs on some nights. Rollins students seem to look back with fond memories on their dorm years because of the people they met, the friendships forged, and the parties thrown—regardless of the condition of their actual dorm building.

The dorms are okay. They’re not great, but they don’t suck. I live in Ward, and I really like it. It’s in a great location on campus, right next to the library, the bookstore, and the Campus Center. |

I live in McKean. I have no problem with it, but it’s apparently one of the older dorms, and other people talk crap about it. I think it has a great location, though—right by the pool, a view of the lake, and close to the cafeteria and gym (but closer to the cafeteria). Ward is beautiful on the outside, and Elizabeth has bigger rooms, I think. |

The dorms are nice, and the rooms are pretty big compared to other dorms that I have visited at other various schools. Ward is a good dorm (it just got new carpets put in), Elizabeth is a very nice and clean dorm that was re-done. McKean is not as nice as Ward and Elizabeth Hall, but it is still a great hall, and it is right next to the cafeteria—great if you are very hungry! |

The dorms are a little old, but they’re alright. They have coed dorms, so that is nice. |
