College Prowler Take
The network at Rollins used to be, at best, unreliable. It would go down for days, sometimes even weeks on end, due to viruses and too many students attempting to access mail or AIM at the same time. Recently, however, the IT department did an overhaul on the network, and it is far more consistent. The greatest improvement has been the installation of wireless Internet all over campus. You can access the Internet in any dorm and in most of the buildings on campus, including the Campus Center. Checking your e-mail frequently is important, because teachers frequently use it to reach students with information on due date changes or meeting times, and it seems more and more classes have begun to utilize Blackboard to post assignments. The computer labs on campus can get quite crowded during midterm and finals week, but most agree you can still find a computer on even the busiest days. Having your own laptop is undoubtedly useful, especially now that you can get on the Internet virtually anywhere, but without one, getting work done shouldn’t be a problem. The computer labs frequently become places to socialize for students cramming to finish school work and still chat with friends.

The computer network is great! You are able to go online anywhere on campus, in any building, while not being connected to the wall! The computer labs are never crowded unless it is exam time. Then it is crunch time, and all of the students are either catching up on work they missed or studying in the library. I would suggest you bring your own computer, but it is not required. |

You should bring your own computer, because you will not always want to work in the computer lab. It’s crowded, but you’ll always be able to find a computer to use. The network is fine; it has been updated and works great this year, compared to the past few years at Rollins. |
