Comparable Schools' Diversity Grades:
College Prowler Take
The demographics speak for themselves—our campus is not an extremely diverse one, and many take issue with this. As one student accurately wrote, “Sometimes everyone starts to look the same.” Rollins has a stereotype for consisting of rich, preppy, white kids, and it’s easy to understand how this typecast came about, because a significant number of students fit this profile. But it’s important to recognize that an almost equal number of students are nothing like the Rollins conception. The variety of multicultural clubs on campus and the increasing amount of minority students entering Rollins proves diversity does exist. Politically, the campus seems pretty much split, and during election times, things can get heated. An abnormally large portion of students come from the Northeast, while international students are underrepresented. It takes some effort and patience for students drastically different from the mold to find those similar to them at Rollins, but the many clubs and special-interest housing opportunities help greatly in the process. Lots of students are bent on making Rollins a more diverse college, and hopefully, we will see a transformation in the near future.

The campus is not that diverse....
The campus is not that diverse. There are minorities, but the percentage is not great. A lot of students seem to come from the Northeast, but also seem to be conservative republicans. |

The college is pretty diverse. You do find a lot of different nationalities and religions represented. |

Rollins is not very diverse. You...
Rollins is not very diverse. You can tell that admissions is trying to be more diverse since there are some minorities, but it just hasn’t happened yet. There are a lot of programs for different religions, minorities, and activities, but I think the attendance and participation in those is very small. |

There isn’t a lot of diversity on campus, unfortunately. It seems like most people fit into one of two molds: stereotypical Rollins student and everyone else. It reminds me a lot of being on a show like the OC. |

The campus is not diverse...
The campus is not diverse whatsoever. I am an international student myself, and I can only name a maximum of three to four other people who have had some sort of real international experience. (Not the Rollins one—that doesn’t count!) As for cultural diversity, there is none. The percentage of Latinos, blacks, and Asians on campus only encompasses maybe four percent of the total population on campus. |
FactsEconomic Status
Rollins seems to consist of predominantly students from wealthy economic backgrounds. Much of the student criticism concerning Rollins centers on the believed excess of “snobby rich kids.” This is a generalization, however, and far from all of the students here would classify themselves as rich.
Gay Pride
The campus is tolerant and accepting of gay students. The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Ally Alliance (GLBTA) is recognized and supported.
Minority Clubs
The minority clubs at Rollins are quite active on campus, though often their membership is small. Many of the clubs will host special events regularly to attract new members.
Most Common Religions
The most prominent are Catholic and Christian. The church on campus offers services for both of these denominations, and places of worship for most other religions can be found in the Winter Park and Orlando areas.
Political Activity
The student body at Rollins is relatively divided on the political spectrum. Outspoken liberals and extreme conservatives can both be found in masses. This makes for a lot of political debate and heated election times.
