Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

If you are looking for a diverse college, Rollins is not the place for you. Rollins is more than 70 percent white and only 5 percent black. Rollins students have a stereotype of being rich, preppy, and white. However, Rollins has been trying to add more diversity to the student body during the last few years, and it has been seeking out quite a few international students in order to do so. But even the international students fit the standard Rollins stereotype. Skin color and ethnicity are not the things that will make you seem diverse at Rollins; instead, it is the amount of money you have and the status symbols you present that make you a true Rollins student. If you can't afford the lifestyle, you will stick out more than someone of a different ethnicity.

Students are accepting, for the most part, of minorities on campus, and discrimination is not an issue. However, since Rollins is such a small school, students oftentimes get cliquey in their own groups of friends. With that being said, transfer students might have a hard time fitting in and getting adjusted.

Facts

Gay Pride

The campus is tolerant and accepting of gay students.

Political Activity

The student body at Rollins is relatively divided on the political spectrum. Outspoken liberals and extreme conservatives can both be found in masses. This makes for a lot of political debate and heated election times.

Economic Status

Seemingly, Rollins consists of students from wealthy economic backgrounds. Much of the student criticism concerning Rollins centers on the believed excess of "snobby rich kids." This is a generalization, however, and far from all of the students here would classify themselves as rich.

Most Common Religions

The most prominent religions are Catholic and Christian. The church on campus offers services for both of these denominations, and places of worship for most other religions can be found in the Winter Park and Orlando areas. There is also a large number of Jewish kids at Rollins.

Minority Clubs on Campus

The minority clubs at Rollins are quite active on campus, though often their membership is small. Many of the clubs will host special events regularly to attract new members.
