College Prowler Take

The student body at Rollins is an unusually attractive one. Girls are typically thin, dressed in designer clothing, and immaculately well kept. Guys are preppy, rich, and many are very good looking. Girls are also known to be snobby, and guys generally cocky. But these are all stereotypes, and far from everyone conforms to these generalizations. As one student wrote, “If you look, you can find any social atmosphere you desire at Rollins.” This is true, but it does take some effort. Girls may have to put in even more effort to find a guy, because the girls greatly outnumber the guys by about 60 percent to 40 percent.

Entering Rollins, you quickly realize that this campus has extreme materialistic tendencies and an abnormal amount of students with excessive wealth. Dress is important here and contributes greatly to social status. Designer brands are a must, and most dress as preppy as possible. Popped collars on guys and Lily Pulitzer for girls are major fashion trends at Rollins. Though many scorn the materialism at Rollins, it does make for an attractive student body that parents approve highly of.

The guys are preppy, and the girls are rich. You get used to it, but it is an adjustment. Bring your polos and Louis Vuitton stuff. But overall, Rollins has a very attractive student body.

A lot of the guys seem to be preppy and high maintenance. Same with the girls. There are a lot of materialistic tendencies at this school, but there are still very nice people. But yes, most students seem to be appearance oriented—the grungy punks or gothics are few and far between.

Honestly, the girls outnumber the guys on campus something like 70 percent to 30 percent, I think. So for the guys, that’s great. For the girls—not so much.

Students at Rollins are rich, preppy, and almost all of them are on some sort of prescription drugs—Prozac, Valium, Adderall, Zoloft—you name it. Pretty much everyone has ADD or ADHD. Instead of book bags, girls carry their supplies in Coach or Louis Vuitton bags. The dress code is Juicy Couture, Lacoste, or Burberry.

Social Scene

Rollins has an active social scene, and meeting students never seems to be a problem. With only about 1,700 students attending Rollins, it's easy to feel like you know—or at least recognize—just about everyone. Clubs are not a huge part of Rollins life, and it more often occurs that people meet in the dorms, at parties, or sometimes simply sitting outside the cafeteria. People are extremely outgoing and always willing to initiate interaction. While getting to know people is easy, the problem becomes getting to know the same people almost too well. After a year or so of going to the same parties and hanging out with the same crowd, you get bored. Students need to step outside routine if they want to keep their social lives exciting.

Hookups or Relationships?

Freshman year, weekend parties revolve, for the most part, around random hookups. At Rollins, commitment-free hookups are common and quite accepted. By sophomore year, however, people start to date more often. Relationships range from extremely short lived and drama filled to couples planning their weddings by senior year. Those who preferred the non-committal hookups of freshman year will have no problem continuing this until the end.

Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls

Guys and girls meet nearly everywhere at Rollins. The more scholastically-inclined can find romance in the library, in class, or by joining one of the many clubs on campus. Greek life fosters interaction between the frats and sororities. Parties, of course, are among the best places to meet people. The highest concentration of “hotties” is generally found by the pool, basking under the rays in tiny bikinis and board shorts.

Dress Code

Fashion is of great importance at Rollins. The majority of students dress preppy, and nearly all those with "style" buy top name designer brands. The stereotypical dress code for a Rollins girl on any given day would be a Lily Pulitzer skirt paired with a Lacoste polo shirt, Down East sandals, and a Louis Vuitton purse to match. Guys dress slightly more casual, frequently in jeans, khakis, or shorts and a polo shirt. Outfits for going out are often chosen well in advance, with stunning results. There are also plenty who could care less about fashion and go to class in their pajamas, preferring sleep to immaculate dress.
