Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The students at Rollins are unusually good looking and well dressed. The girls are thin, well-kept, and dressed to impress. Girls typically dress up in designer clothes, even for class, and the guys are normally found looking groomed and preppy. Students definitely wear their wealth on their sleeves. Lucky for the guys at Rollins, there are far more girls than guys on campus. The girl-to-guy ratio is about 60 percent to 40 percent. So if you are a girl looking for a guy, you may have some trouble finding one who isn’t taken. The guys at Rollins are commonly known to be cocky and arrogant, and the girls are often said to be snobby, but stereotypes are stereotypes, and although many students fit the stereotype, there are always the exceptions!

If you cannot afford the designer clothes, purses, and jewelry, then you definitely will feel out of place because every day is a fashion show at Rollins. The way students dress may add to the "country club" feel of the campus. The student body is extremely attractive and appealing.

Kind of like a bubble

Sometimes it's really easy to get caught up in Rollins and forget about the rest of the world. You don't really notice anything strange about Rollins until you visit other schools events. Everyone at Rollins is pretty much the same but it does ensure that everyone gets along with each other and no one feels left out. Going here feels like being part of a large family.

Rollins Is Not All Rich Preppy Kids, but There Is Alot.

It varies within the different social circles. There is a good amount of wealthy students who dress nice, are attractive, and flaunt their wealth. This is mostly kids that are not on scholarships, although Rollins has obtained a reputation based on this group alone. The majority of students are on scholarship, and are normal college students, tending to be more down to earth than the others.

Types of Students

Most students are young. Not in a real profession. Working little jobs to finish school because they want not need to. Lots of well off students but other financial status students there. Most travel in clicks. Several Rollins College employees are students. Having the advantage of a FREE education, they seem to stand out the most.

What kinds of relationships have you had since coming to school?

How would you rate the social scene on campus?

Facts

Social Scene

Rollins has an active social scene, and meeting students never seems to be a problem. With only about 1,700 students attending Rollins, it's easy to feel like you know—or at least recognize—just about everyone. People are extremely outgoing and always willing to initiate interaction. While getting to know people is easy, the problem becomes getting to know the same people almost too well. After a year or so of going to the same parties and hanging out with the same crowd, you get bored. Students need to step outside of routine if they want to keep their social lives exciting.

Hookups or Relationships?

Freshman year, weekend parties revolve, for the most part, around random hookups. At Rollins, commitment-free hookups are common and quite accepted. By sophomore year, however, people start to date more often. Relationships range from extremely short-lived and drama-filled to couples planning their weddings by senior year. Those who preferred the noncommittal hookups of freshman year will have no problem continuing this until the end.

Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls

Guys and girls meet nearly everywhere at Rollins. The more scholastically-inclined can find romance in the library, in class, or by joining one of the many clubs on campus. Greek life fosters interaction between the frats and sororities. Parties, of course, are among the best places to meet people. The highest concentration of “hotties” is generally found by the pool, basking under the rays in tiny bikinis and board shorts.

Dress Code

Fashion is of great importance at Rollins. The majority of students dresses preppy, and nearly all those with "style" buy top-name designer brands. The stereotypical dress code for a Rollins girl on any given day would be a Lilly Pulitzer skirt paired with a Lacoste polo shirt, sandals, and a Louis Vuitton purse to match. Guys dress slightly more casual, frequently in jeans, khakis, or shorts and a polo shirt. Outfits for going out are often chosen well in advance, with stunning results. There are also plenty who could care less about fashion and go to class in their pajamas, preferring sleep to immaculate dress.
