College Prowler Take

Winter Park itself is a small, relatively quiet town abutting the bustling city of Orlando. This provides the best of both worlds, as Rollins students can relax in the small-town atmosphere surrounding the college and also visit the multitude of attractions Orlando has to offer with just a 15-minute drive on I-75. Within walking distance of campus are a variety of upscale clothing stores and elegant restaurants. For more shopping, the Millennia Mall in Orlando is enormous and gorgeous, offering just about any store you can think of. Also in Orlando, you can visit Disney World and relive your childhood while dining with Mickey, or you can enjoy the roller coasters in Universal Studios. Rollins is located relatively close to UCF, and many students party there frequently for a break from the usual Rollins scene. UF isn’t too far from campus, either.

Though the quaint town of Winter Park is beautiful and ritzy, you really need a car to experience more of the area. Downtown Orlando offers the best (and just about only) nightlife. There, popular clubs line the streets, and bars are literally everywhere. The theme parks are a great option for days off from class, and beaches are within a one- to two-hour drive. All in all, Rollins is well situated, and most students find the immediate area charming, with a paradise-like quality and the surrounding city full of entertainment options.

The atmosphere is tremendous! The area is very safe, and there is a lot to do. Park Avenue is a great spot to check out—it is only one minute away! Also, there is Fiddler’s Green and Bistro if you are looking for a night scene. Many students hang out with students from other universities, like UCF and Valencia Community College. That is great because you are able to meet other students that live in a different environment, and you are able to see and hang out with them and do different things from the norm.

Winter Park is great for eating out, shopping, and movies. Instead of going toward the direction of the closet college, UCF, it’s better to go to downtown Orlando, which is only 15 minutes away.

Winter Park is an upper-class, ritzy town, but it is nice. Park Avenue is where you will find shops (very expensive but nice) and restaurants. Rollins is the only college in Winter Park, I believe. Stores, malls, and movie theaters are all very close—15 minutes away, maybe. Also, Orlando is only 10 or so minutes away, and there is everything—Universal, Disney, and all the stores and restaurants you could want.

The atmosphere is, overall, pretty friendly. University of Central Florida, Valencia Community College, and Full Sail are all nearby if the snooty Winter Park atmosphere gets to be too much. Money talks in the local area, but the rest of Orlando is just 10 minutes away, where more friendly and diverse people live. The theme parks are about 30 minutes away and very fun to visit if you have extra money. There are malls and movie theaters all over the place, and Cocoa Beach is only about 45 minutes to an hour away. Downtown Orlando has tons of restaurants, clubs, and bars for nightlife.

In Winter Park, there are no competing universities. When you get into Orlando, though, UCF is a big school. Winter Park is beautiful, and walking off campus is a definite option. 7-11, open 24 hours, is right outside of campus.
