College Prowler Take
Off-campus housing can offer peace of mind for those overwhelmed by hectic dorm life, but in Winter Park, it often comes with a higher price. Apartments close to campus can run upwards of $1,000 a month, but if you’re willing to drive 10 to 15 minutes to school, the prices drop considerably. Having roommates can alleviate any price concerns. It’s common for three to four friends to rent houses in the area or for two or more to share apartments. There are a lot of rentals available in the area, though students will find that a few owners make a policy of not renting to Rollins students. Finding off-campus housing takes some hunting, but most students eventually find a location well suited to them and stay there for the remainder of their college years. Living off campus comes with many additional responsibilities. Students just leaving the dorms find they have to handle the utilities, cable, and Internet bills that were previously supplied by the college. Finding compatible roommates and fair landlords are essentials to ensuring a positive off-campus experience. For those willing to devote some time and consideration to finding the right home or apartment, the freedom and privacy living off campus provides will be ample reward.

After freshman year, housing off campus is not as convenient as the housing on campus because there is the commute and all. It is better to stay on campus so that you don’t have the hassle of driving and possibly being late to class because of traffic. There is great housing after freshman year on campus, though. This housing is named Sutton. These are basically apartments on campus that are very nice and clean. In each apartment, there are two bedrooms for four people to share, a kitchen, a living room, and two bathrooms. |

I wouldn’t know personally, but I’ve heard that the cost to live off campus and live in the dorm is close to the same price. |

There are houses off campus that can be rented by two to four people if you have the money. Affordable apartments are 10 to 20 minutes off campus, but definitely worth it in my opinion, if you have someone to split the rent with. If you receive financial aid, the amount the school charges for the dorm and meal plan will definitely be enough for half of the expenses for an apartment. |

Off-campus housing is great! There are plenty of apartments and houses really close to the school. Plus, Rollins owns an apartment building called Sutton which is on campus like a dorm, but each apartment has two baths and a kitchen. This is a really great option! |

You have to live on campus your first two years, and I plan on living on campus the whole time since it’s so convenient to have everything right there and people who cook and clean for you. Plus, you can roll out of bed, get ready, and get to class in, like, 10 minutes. |
