Rollins Alcoholics Anonymous

C+

rollins loves to drink but its pretty much the same parties over and over again. same girls getting drunk off one beer and the same douchebag frats notoriously roofying girls. there is rarely a chill party, as girls are always sporting high hooker heels and boys are always wearing ties and vineyard vines pants.

not having a football team is one of rollins' serious detriments. its unfortunate, we have a beautiful stadium that offers free shirts and popcorn on game days, but at maximum theres usually only 10 people attended the soccer games

Ninety-five percent of the girls on campus are extremely hot. Reason being that they are snotty, rich, 18-year-old girls who never hesitate to max out daddy’s credit card on weekly Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and Prada shopping sprees. Driving around in a Porsche, BMW, or Mercedes is normal for some of these people. It’s weird how with money at Rollins, you can still be a student—even though you’ve been caught growing pot plants in your dorm room and later that next year crashed into a residence hall because you were too drunk to drive. Other than that, the other five percent of the campus population is normal, everyday people.

Drugs are a significant offense on campus. If caught, there are severe consequences. Underage drinking isn’t as bad, but there are some penalties for that, as well. It really depends, I guess.

The dorms are okay. They’re not great, but they don’t suck. I live in Ward, and I really like it. It’s in a great location on campus, right next to the library, the bookstore, and the Campus Center.

Before going to parties, everyone pre-games in their rooms so they are drunk when they get there. Then they drink even more at the party. So basically, it doesn’t matter what the party is like; the students are mostly focused on just getting wasted.

I find the teachers very nice and helpful. They are willing to make learning a fun experience, and I do find many of my classes interesting. I loved my creative writing class and many of my psychology courses.

I used to hate Rollins. I realized later that this was due to a bad roommate, not a bad school. If you are not the stereotype, you do have to work a bit harder to meet people. Live in dorms, and you will find at least one person you like. I met most of my friends this way; with the exception of two I met in upper-level classes, where students usually share interests. I’m glad now I didn’t transfer. Once you acclimate and look a little further (and get over the bitterness you’re sure to feel at first when you don’t immediately fit in), you will find something you love.

Somewhat Abornmal

daddy's money boys rollins kids anything they want...cocaine, alcohol, weed, adderol, xanax, and virtually any pain killer available. of course, this is normal for a big school, but for a school with 1700 people, its a bit much to walk into the library bathroom to see girls doing cocaine off the sink.

This is my third school, and I’m not a big fan of the student body, though UCF is down the road, and Orlando is home to many do-nothing neo-Bohemians working at Starbucks or some other corporate venue to pay for their art supplies or tattoos to hang with. This is not to say that I do not love the academics at Rollins. I have yet to have a bad professor, and the bio and chem departments are top-notch. Also, the professors will bend over backwards for you. The small class sizes are definitely a plus; I can’t say I miss elbowing people out of the way to check my latest bio test grade, which is listed by social security number.

I like the academic side of the school very much—teachers are helpful and classes are generally good. There is a small class size, and teachers are usually very straightforward about what to expect. Socially, however, I wish people were friendlier. I typically hang out with UCF students or people I knew from before college, because they are easier to be around. Sometimes I wish I went to a slightly larger school, because our school is like a small community (everybody knows everything about everybody else). Also, the administration seems to give preference to wealthy families and treats students disrespectfully many times.

The ‘stereotypical’ Rollins guy is as follows: cocky, good-looking, rich, republican, non-monogamous, lacking in intelligence, and often drunk. The girls are the same. Throw in some cocaine, and you have the stereotypical Rollins relationship. I emphasize stereotypical, though. One can find friends through the multitude of clubs or in class, by living in specialty housing (Roc or Pinehurst) and through your major. There are others out there; don’t get discouraged. Two of my best friends are from Rollins, and we are anything but the stereotype.

When I first came to Rollins, we were voted in the top five for hottest girls on campus in Playboy, Maxim, and I’m sure some other similar magazines. I think it depends on taste, but we have a decent-looking crowd.

Parking Horrible for Freshmen, Limited for Rest

B-

Most freshmen don't have cars because they live on-campus, but if they do, they can only park in the parking garage--a half-mile away from campus. Parking stickers are $25 for all, and upperclassmen get priority on parking on-campus. There are limited spaces to park, especially during the week. On weekends, everyone is out, so spaces are more accessible.

Pretty Good Housing, on-Campus Apartaments the Best

A

The freshman dorms depend on which dorm you get. Rex Beach is said to be the worst, but they have a kitchen that they all use and is pretty small. McKean is the biggest and is pretty okay. Ward Hall just got refurbished and is the best underclassmen dorm. As for upperclassmen, Sutton Apartments is the best but you need to apply early. Elizabeth Hall is also really nice for upperclassmen--the rooms are huge.

Rich People, All Tan Thin and Fit

A

Rollins is a rich school--costs lots of money to get in, so over 60% of the population is loaded with money. Being rich, most everyone is more fit, and healthy, and dress much nicer. The girls are hot if you like leggy blondes, and the guys are shirtless and plentiful. Most of the college is like this, but there are nice, fun, down-to-earth people who don't want to drunkenly bed you, as well. It takes a high GPA to get in, though, so not everyone is here on their parent's credit card--these are some smart people. Smart people with a very active nightlife.

Good Variety, Clean, Nice Workers, Expensive

A-

There are lots of places on campus to eat, and lots of variety. There's not much if you're diabetic or hypoglycemic or a vegetarian. Dave's Down Under is open late, but is the only one that's available in the middle of the night. Dominoes pizza accepts your meal plan, though, so if you're in the mood for pizza, you can spend that money you're not using in the cafeteria.

In the past year, Rollins has really cracked down with a ton of "write-ups." Usually if you're at a party—very few don't get broken up—you get can out of trouble, but if campus security finds alcohol or drugs in your room, you will definitely be in trouble.
