College Prowler Take

Most students feel safe on campus, due largely to the extremely small size of the campus and infrequent crime. Campus Safety seems to always be a presence, riding around both day and night on their golf carts. Call-boxes are located all around campus, though it seems officers don’t always respond as quickly as they should. Winter Park itself is a very safe area with low instances of crime, and most students come to Rollins with little fear for their personal safety. Though theft does occur, it is usually a result of students feeling so safe they fail to lock their dorm room doors, and come back to a missing laptop or jewelry.

While students at larger campuses are often afraid to walk alone at night or feel they need an escort, most Rollins students come and go from the parking garage at all hours without trepidation. It isn’t that security on campus is superb or superior to that of other colleges; rather it is the intimate, secure atmosphere of Rollins and the Winter Park area that makes students feel at ease. Needless to say, when crime does occur on campus, it is quickly the topic of discussion for weeks to come and causes many to question their common attitude of invincibility.

The staff is really very friendly and oftentimes just looking out for the safety of the students. But they definitely know how to bust a party.

I have not found security to be very helpful. At one point, I needed to go to the emergency room at the hospital, and I didn’t have a car, and they told me they couldn’t help me.
