  • The Johnson Center - This is often considered the most difficult classroom cluster to find. It is in the Psychology Center, located inside of the Bush Science Center, on the first floor.
  • TJ’s - The Thomas Johnson Tutoring Center. Go there for help on a paper or studying for a test.

Urban Legends

  • Former president Rita Bornstein was actually a robot.
  • In 2004, a deranged man went into the Rollins parking garage and smashed over 40 cars. Rumor has it he was fired from Rollins earlier that day.
  • Legend has it that years ago, a girl from a small farming town who was accustomed to outhouses refused to use the toilets at Rollins. She instead defecated in paper bags and stashed them in her room. The smell was detected but no one discovered her indoor “toilet” until end of the year clean up!

Traditions

  • Bach Festival - Rollins is a part of the highly-acclaimed Winter Park Bach Festival Society. This society is the third oldest continuously operating Bach Festival in the United States. The Bach Festival Society performs in the Knowles Memorial Chapel on campus and holds almost weekly events which draw large crowds of music lovers.
  • Diversity Celebration Week - A yearly week-long series of events to promote and encourage the discussion of diversity issues, sponsored by the Cultural Action Committee. Some of the events include: a Martin Luther King Jr. banquet, musical performances, and Unity Fest (a carnival-like event featuring booths with food and music by each organization related to diversity).
  • Fox Day - Fox Day is everyone’s favorite tradition at Rollins. Once a year, in the spring, the current president puts out a fox statue on Mills Lawn to cancel classes for the day. Everyone piles into cars and sometimes organizations get buses to head to Cocoa Beach. The frats bring kegs and the beach turns into a huge Rollins party. After a long day of swimming, Frisbee, drinking, and sunbathing, students head back burned but very relaxed. Fox Day is always a success, and it is so highly anticipated that students begin to look for the fox at dawn on mornings early in the spring semester.
  • Greek Week - All of the fraternities and sororities compete in daily challenges during Greek Week. The competitions range from creating posters to building and sailing boats. It is an exciting week for both Greek and non-Greek students, as the events are always entertaining and fun to watch.
  • Halloween Howl - To celebrate Halloween and reach out to the youth of Winter Park, Rollins organizations create fun booths and games for the annual Halloween Howl event. Mills Lawn becomes a sea of outlandish costumes and excited children as they celebrate Halloween in a safe and entertaining manner.
  • Healthy Lovin’ Week - Rollins runs Healthy Lovin’ Week to promote safe sex on campus in a fun manner. During the week, games such as condom bingo, hilarious speakers, and dating game shows help spread the message of safe sex.
  • Peace Jam - Rollins is honored to bring the national program Peace Jam to our campus each year. This program brings in youth of the community for a weekend of working with a Nobel Peace Prize recipient. The children participate in leadership-building activities, as well as creating and presenting a plan of action to improve a problem they see in their community. The Nobel Prize recipient (which varies by year) also addresses the Rollins community in a lecture open to all interested in attending.
  • Winter with the Writers - Each year, Rollins hosts the Winter with the Writers program, which brings distinguished authors to campus weekly. The authors give readings, lectures, and offer workshops open to students, faculty, and staff. Rollins actually offers a class that prepares for these authors and introduces them at lectures.

School Spirit

School spirit is present at Rollins, but not abundantly so. Many students are proud to go to Rollins, yet they fail to get actively involved. The lack of attendance at varsity and intramural games reveals this.
