College Prowler Take
Winter Park, like much of Florida, lacks good public transportation. Buses are inconvenient, and most students don’t have a clue when they run or where the stops are. There is a train station across from campus, which some students have found useful for traveling home if they don’t have a car or don’t feel like driving. However, the train doesn’t travel directly to every city, and buses are used as connectors, making the trip long, depending on where you’re headed. The taxi service is decent in Winter Park. The cabs come generally within 15 minutes and know the Rollins campus well. However, constantly using cabs can become an expensive affair.
Rollins students are glad for the small size of the campus. Walking to and from classes or to the dorms is never an issue, because everything is in close proximity. Shuttles aren’t needed. It’s also nice to have all the restaurants and shops on Park Avenue across from campus, so students without cars can at least grab a bite to eat off campus. However, as most students wrote, you need a car. The public transportation in town is simply not convenient or accessible enough to rely on entirely. Many students without their own car find more success catching rides from friends than checking out the bus schedule.
