College Prowler Take
Rutgers University is not a small university where you can roll out of bed and walk to class in pajamas. Typically, students have to take Rutgers’s long red bus to class. Sometimes, students try to schedule their classes on the campus where they live, while others are not as lucky. Rutgers’s buses are tracked on the Web site www.nextbus.com. Students check to see where on campus their bus is, so they do not have to wait outside for it to come. Also, at the bus stop, there is an electronic board, which lets students know when each bus is coming. Buses run almost every seven minutes, and after 3 a.m., students can call the Knight Mover, known to students as the drunk bus, to pick them up and take them to a requested location. NJ Transit buses are also available in downtown New Brunswick. The New Brunswick bus station is across the street from the official Rutgers’ bookstore. Running on the North East Corridor Line, students can buy a round-trip ticket to New York City for $13. Many courses at Rutgers require students to attend art museums or plays in Manhattan. The bus system at Rutgers is often tiring, but it is the only way that students can get to classes. Typically, the buses are safe. The buses are always crowded during student rush hour, which is typically around 2:30 p.m., a popular class time. During this time, students struggle to find seats on the bus, while others stand and hold onto the rails for dear life as the accordion bus swings the corners.

NJ Transit, the nation’s third largest provider of rail, light rail, and bus transit, has a number of options for students to get around New Brunswick and the surrounding area. It has a number of buses running through New Brunswick. Located conveniently in the middle of town, and right on the edge of campus, is a train station with trains that go to the state capital of Trenton, Newark Airport, and New York City. If you’re at Rutgers and have someplace to go, you can most likely find the public transportation to get there. That’s one of the most convenient things about Rutgers. |

Considering that within Rutgers New Brunswick there are five campuses spanning over two different towns, it is necessary for public transportation to be efficient. Rutgers itself has its own busline that runs buses from campus to campus. There is also a shuttle that runs through the residential areas of New Brunswick, especially for off-campus students who have a bit of a walk to endure from campus. The bus system also runs past off-campus apartments in nearby Highland Park. Students living off campus in the immediate area always have a ride to count on. |
