Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

In certain freshman residence halls, students will mysteriously go to the back of the building, returning 20 minutes later in a much happier state. There is nothing at all in the back of the dorm to make them happy except a lot of trees. That’s how you can describe the drug scene at Rutgers. People can do what they want to do, and it isn’t crazily talked about. Students can, however, get caught smoking weed or taking other drugs, especially if the drugs are in their rooms. Many times the RAs will walk around at night and see if they smell anything funny coming from the dorm rooms. While drugs are prevalent on campus, it is more common to get caught drinking in the dorms. Freshmen are primarily the ones who get caught since they are especially dumb about drinking. They are known to leave their doors open with alcohol in hand, as if they are asking the RA to catch them. The RAs are far stricter in freshman dorms than in upperclassmen ones, so first-year students have to be extremely mindful of their actions.

In recent years, it seems as that the biggest drugs on campus are Ritalin or Adderall. During midterms and finals, students take these drugs to stay awake to study throughout the night. It is very common to walk into a lounge at 5 a.m. in a residence hall and see 25 people wide awake and studying. Students don’t think of these as drugs, and it is very easy to find them. Whenever a student is caught with alcohol or drugs on campus, they are sent to drug counseling and have to complete community service. Students caught with alcohol mostly have to work in the dining halls. To avoid this public humiliation, be careful with alcohol, and don’t do any drugs inside the dorms.

Drinks Over Drugs

At Rutgers University, drugs and addictive are rarely seen to be used. If being used, an individual would most likely be just smoking the substance, but not carrying the substance around campus. There are more bars in the New Brunswick area, which attracts the student body on Friday nights and weekends.

Alcohol Is Most Popular

Students are more seen drinking rather than doing drugs. Students who do drugs just do it with that group they hang out and in a closed location so no one is aware of it. Fraternity parties always have alcohol at the parties that just about everyone consumes.

No Heavy Drugs Here

To my knowledge the only drugs know about that student do is smoking and drinking alcohol. Those activities usually only take place on weekends, at parties. I don’t hear or see students doing the hard drugs at Rutgers.
