Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

If you come to Rutgers with a “type,” chances are, you will be able to find 300 guys or girls to satisfy it. It is definitely not hard to meet people at Rutgers. Douglass alone is a campus of only girls. Although love isn’t always lingering in the air, it seems as though Rutgers students are happy. Students can meet people in organizations or clubs, as well as residence halls and student employment. Or you can live life on the wild side and venture to the infamous Frat Row where students from all the campuses direct themselves from Thursday to Saturday nights. With the help of cheap beer and strong jungle juice, if a student wants to find someone, he or she will. The parties are always free and hosted by the fraternity. Parties last all year, even in the winter when students bear the cold and snow for the sake of possibly meeting someone.

Once the weather gets warmer, students become more dreamy-eyed and hand holding on campus becomes common. Attire becomes more scandalous, as alas, tank tops and shorts circulate into girls’ wardrobes. Hard muscular bodies that guys worked on all winter are paraded in wife-beater tank tops that they seem to wear to class, as well as weekend parties. Attractive students are definitely seen on campus—since there are so many students, the cute ones stick out in the crowds.

Someone for Everyone

there's a lot of different people at rutgers, you'll find the sorrority types that are really into themselves and have to leave their rooms with a crapload of makeup, there's natural beauty around, there's people that prefer to study and don't give a crap about how they look or if they do their hair. same goes for the guys, there's the nerds, the super nerds, the jocks that have to work out everyday, and then if you're lucky you can find really cool guys that aren't trying to get in your jeans and make some good friends

Facts

Social Scene

It seems as though students at RU are always hooking up with someone. It is not extremely difficult to date on campus—people have even met their boyfriends or girlfriends riding the Rutgers buses. Everyday, males and females squish onto the red buses to make it to their classes on time. Since there's hardly any breathing room, it's easy to get to know somebody really quickly, especially when body parts are pressed up against each other. Other ways of meeting partners are in residence halls. Floor romances often occur because in many halls, male and female rooms are placed side by side. True love forms when you bump into your crush on the floor sleepy-eyed at 7 a.m. However, students agree that the safest way for students to form relationships at RU is to meet people with similar interests. This is easily done by joining one of the 500 clubs and organizations on campus. If you're after a one-night stand, hang around Frat Row on Thursday through Saturday nights.

Hookups or Relationships?

There are a number of people in relationships and a number of people who are single. Some people come to Rutgers with their high school sweetheart, which sometimes lasts and other times doesn’t. Many people are into hooking up, while many others are interested in serious relationships. Generally, most upperclassmen are looking for serious relationships, and freshmen and sophomores want to experiment. Regardless though, this is just a generalization, and this rule doesn’t apply to everyone.

Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls

There are so many places around campus to meet people. Whether you are on the bus from College Avenue to Douglass or eating in the Busch Dining Hall, there’s always someone to chat with. Many people form bonds with others at parties, classes, or in the dorms. Also, going to an activity that interests you probably will attract others that are similar to you. Some males tend to sign up for women’s studies classes, where they are bound to meet girls, who are overwhelmingly present in the classes. Student centers are also a great place to start talking to someone if you are waiting in line to get food.

Dress Code

Since there are more than 25,000 undergraduates at Rutgers, students’ attire choices vary. Some people go to class in sweats, while others spend hours fixing their wardrobes before going out. It’s really all about preference. On the College Avenue Campus, you see mostly preppy people walking around wearing Hollister and Abercrombie and Fitch. Labels such as Sean John and Rocawear are popular on the Livingston campus. On Douglass, girls are walking around in skirts, usually a very bohemian look. On Cook, you see people wearing button-down shirts. On Busch, you see boys walking around in shirts from Target and girls wearing jeans from the Gap. Ultimately though, these are just stereotypes and you could definitely find someone, who lives on Cook, wearing Sean John on College Avenue.
