Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Nationwide, Rutgers is more known for its grease trucks than its highly-rated business school. Fat sandwiches are the primary cause for gaining the Freshman 15. It is said that you are not really a Rutgers student until you have had a fat sandwich. Maxim magazine even rated the Fat Darrell the best sandwich in America. However, if you want to fit into your high school jeans for a while, you have other options. Saladworks, Thinisu, and Happy’s Health Grill are popular spots for vegetarians and students who don’t want an early heart attack. However, if cardiac arrest is your choice, downtown New Brunswick is filled with cheap, greasy pizza places that all offer the same foods that are delicious, but certainly not healthy.

When parents come to town, RU students beg them to take them to one of the four-star restaurants in the area. Nova Terra, Sapporo, and SoHo are popular, trendy spots to eat. However, Old Man Rafferty’s is unofficially the “Rutgers” restaurant, employing and serving most of the University. The restaurant is cheap and has amazing desserts and a classy ambiance that keeps students coming back. The restaurants downtown also accommodate the diverse student population by having restaurants that offer Indian, Ethiopian, Chinese, Creole, and Italian foods.

The City of New Brunswick and Rutgers

College avenue campus is the most enveloped into the city of New Brunswick and that shows in the food choices and availibility. There are many Rutger's student discounts as well as just good cheap eats. Any where on George Street or Easton Avenue would be a great choice for a student.

Reasonable Price but Not the Most Convenient

Some variety but many restaurants offer reasonable price. Off campus housing is only located downtown so people who live far from College Avenue have a disadvantage.
