Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Many students at Rutgers choose to live off campus after their freshman year. Primarily, they want a place they can live at during the summer and winter breaks, as well as a single room, private bathrooms, and a place to party without the watchful eyes of the RAs. There is a large surplus of housing available off campus, but it is always safe to start looking early in the second semester. The cleanest apartments and houses tend to get taken first. The longer you wait on your quest for an off-campus house, the grosser it may be. The best way to find a great off-campus house or apartment is to become friends with seniors who are graduating.

However, students who choose to live off campus have to deal with the security issues that come along with it. It is safer to live on campus where the residence halls are locked, unless a student opens the door with their student ID. Room and board fees also pay for maintenance problems making life a little bit easier and safer. Off-campus houses do not always have secure doors and windows, and landlords aren’t always quick to fix them—or the other things in the house that may break. Also, on-campus housing supplies you with a fast Ethernet connection, a desk, bed, and other amenities, and off-campus housing supplies you with an empty house.

Some Apartment Are Convenient

Rutgers counts with a lot of off-campus apartments. They are all spread out in the different campuses, but the prices may vary. Also the students need to start looking for apartments as soon as they can otherwise they won't be able to get one. But the good things is hat the landlords are understandable and comprehensive.

Live in a Party House and Suck It up.

The closer you get to college ave, the more expensive it gets. You can easily pay $600/month, but if you look hard enough & early enough (!) & are willing to live with a lot of people you can pay about $400. The pickin's get PRETTY slim right after christmas break, so start looking in december!
