Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Most students appreciate Sac State because it’s pleasant, but they often wish it had more school spirit. The ones who are satisfied with it usually haven’t been to other four-year universities, so they don’t have anything major to compare it to from first-hand experience. Those who wish for more excitement usually mention wilder Bay Area campuses. A majority of people who attend Sac State just want a degree so they can get out. They know not to expect the typical college experience that makes for legendary times and awesome memories. Too many of them commute. If Sac State were more of an on-campus school, there would be more student satisfaction socially. If you decide to study here and want campus community, seek clubs or other social organizations as soon as possible. If you’re laid-back and don’t mind coming to a school where everyone just comes to a get a grade and a job, make yourself at home.

Many students would be blown away if they knew how hard their education could be, but a lot of them are fine with Sac State’s current academic level. Most assignments are easy, and it’s surprising what students worry about. There’s a writing test, the Writing Proficiency Exam, that all students must take before advancing to higher-level classes, and it has a fearsome reputation because many of them make a big deal about it. But in reality, it’s nothing more than an in-class essay where you offer your opinion on a certain topic; that’s all. Although most Sac State students don’t think their education is lacking, when they voice concerns, it’s obvious that something’s missing. If they were used to consistently working harder, that test would be a breeze.

Sacramento State Has Everything!

Whether if it's sight-seeing, shopping, hanging out or anything, Sacramento State is closest to all. I've enjoyed my freshmen year over here so far. Some of my friends live in Sacramento their whole life, which makes it easier for them to drive us to go shopping. That just shows how easy it is to make friends in Sacramento State. Everyone welcomes you here and accepts you regardless of ethnicity, religion, culture, skin color, etc. All the sorority groups makes you feel welcome at first sight when they talk to you. Even though you're not joining their group, they still welcome you anytime. The Well (the gym), is a great place to relieve stress during finals week. The Well has everything! From weight-lifting to tennis courts to tread mills, its a great gym that you can use without paying your membership every month.

Everyone's Equal

At Sacramento State, everyone treats others how they want to be treated (well, at least to the people I met so far). All the clubs are fair to each other. There are some students in a different sorority talking to another sorority group. Greek life at school doesn't affect Sacstate. Everyone looks at each other equally.

The Professors Are Great!

All of my professors I have so far are great at teaching. Not only do they put a smile on your face every weekday, they're also willing to teach you without any frustration. Questions can either be asked in class or during their office hours. They help students when needed at the same time they have their own sense of style of teaching. Each professor I had so far, is a memoir I'll keep during this freshmen semester.
