College Prowler Take
Most students feel safe and secure on campus, and they’re not too concerned about being victims. However, sometimes thefts occur. Because Sac State is a commuter school, a lot of cars go through it every weekday, so that’s when the car thieves come out. But the frequency of car thefts and break-ins isn’t enough to make everyone afraid of parking at the school. Many students who’ve gone to classes for years have never had any problems. The campus security force is barely noticeable, except in the parking lot. Cops patrol from time to time to make sure no one speeds or runs stop signs, but for a school servicing so many, you’d expect a larger security force. Student security officers handle most on-campus police duties, but a large number of students don’t even notice the student security force. After all, there are about 17 guards assigned to a population of almost 30,000, so they tend to get lost.
No matter what the atmosphere, stay alert. You never know what could happen, and people who aren’t on their guard are ripe for theft or other criminal activity. A typical Sac State student fits this profile, so if you come to this school, don’t let it happen to you. Although it’s a safe place to get a degree, it’s no crime-free paradise.

Someone Got Murdered This Year on Campus...
C-
Enough said. There's police on campus, but cars get broken into and computers get stolen regularly.

Supposedly, security is okay, yet I never see many of them around at night. One would think that’s when they need to be around the most. |

I feel safe and secure everywhere I walk on campus, no matter what the time. |

I’ve seen a few security people walking around, and that’s it. I would prefer to have some more available when it’s getting dark walking around, just to let me know I can yell and get help. |

Although there is a visible presence of security and law enforcement, many students are concerned with their personal safety. Items like cars, bikes, and belongings are often reported as vandalized or stolen. On a danger scale of one to ten, I’d say we’re a seven. |
