Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

To fully understand St. Joe’s, you have to appreciate the people who run it. There’s a uniform vibe amongst the faculty, staff, and students here that’s unique to the school. A large number of students end up sticking around the area or moving to Philly for job offers after graduation. While it’s true many grads pack up and head to D.C. or NYC for jobs, it’s because of the time and effort they put in at St. Joe’s that got them there. Also, it’s not uncommon for St. Joe’s students to stick around the University with campus jobs in certain departments or as housing advisors.

Everyone at St. Joe’s takes the school with a small sense of humor. There are some who love it and a small percentage who pretend they hate it, but most people agree this quirky school in an even quirkier city is endearing. The biggest complaint is the cost of attending; however, this is often offset by the large amount of scholarships given out. The running theme through the school is Hawk pride. A lot of students have the “grass is greener” syndrome when reflecting on their time here. However, ask a St. Joe’s student if they would rather be down the road at UPenn or Villanova, and you might get a fat lip.

Diversity at Saint Joseph's University

Diversity Is Needed

Saint Joe's can be mainly perceived as a "white campus". To be completely honest, the minorities on this campus are few and far between and very almost impossible to find. My school is an expensive, catholic school. Consequently, almost all the students come from wealthy parents, dress in nice clothes, and walk with their nose in the air.

Upperclass Housing

This year, Saint Joe's has converted two housing opportunities, previously for sophomores, juniors, and seniors, into junior and senior housing only. The best dorms, campus townhouses, are three floors with your to seven bedrooms and two to three bathrooms. Although the dorms are a bit far away from the main campus, there is a shuttle that transports students to and from campus. So walking alone in the dark is not necessary.

Libraries Aren't Only for Learning

The library at Saint Joseph's University is not only a place for learning new things, but it gives students a place to interact with their friends. Recently, along with Drexel Library they have added a new Campus Commons area. The new facilities allow students to hang out in-between classes, grab a quick bite, or work on some homework for class. Even though it's a popular hangout, there are designated quiet places where students can work diligently on their schoolwork.
