Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

All St. Joe’s freshmen must have a meal plan. There are several different plan options with a corresponding declining balance on a Hawk Card for eating at other times and purchasing food or supplies from the C-store. Many students keep a declining balance after freshman year and forgo the meal plan option. By senior year, most students skip the declining balance altogether and just pay in cash should they choose to eat on campus. The main cafeterias in Campion provide revolving options of “home-cooked meals” as well as ever-changing stations.

Students often complain about the quality of the food at dinner but rate the lunch options significantly higher. Mass-produced cafeteria-style food is tough to pass off as home-cooked, and this could explain the higher rating for simple sandwiches and fast food options during lunch. Older students tend to reluctantly agree that the food quality has improved since they’ve been here, but it has a long way to go. Aramark, which operates all of the food services at St. Joe’s, has guest chefs from around the country and experiments constantly with food options, recently striking gold with the now enormously popular spicy chicken wrap featured at lunch.

Eh

It's college food its not supposed to be spectacular. The meal plan is expensive but you have more freedom with it after freshman year. You get something called DB or declining balance. This allows you to buy food with your student ID. SJU has something called the 'Hawk Wrap', which are actually really good.

Not Too Bad

It could be much worse. It is very repetitive but there is always something to eat. The hours suck though it seems like nothing is ever open

Good Food, Bad Timing

Campion dining is decent. Sometimes the food is better than others. You kind of develop some go-to meals because there are not always great options. The hours also are terrible. Dinner closes at 7, its frustrating having to get to dinner at a certain time. If you miss dinner, there are not that many other options, ESPECIALLY on weekends!

Did You Know? St. Joe's stopped using glass plates in the main cafeteria because so many were found in freshman dorms at the end of the year. Also, large thick cafeteria trays were recently switched to smaller, more flimsy ones because, like at other colleges, students would take the trays for sledding or "traying" when it would snow.
