Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Saint Joseph’s is a Roman Catholic and Jesuit University, and it’s also on the smaller side compared with other colleges. The rules and regulations laid out by the University aren’t made just for the sake of following the law—the administration wants the Jesuit tradition to carry on. This is seen in the school’s mission statement as well as “Spirit, Intellect, Purpose”—the hallmarks of the University’s education. The Catholicism-inspired regulations laid out by the school are smart and encourage the highest morals but are not oppressively Christian. The president of St. Joe’s is a Jesuit priest, and the tight-knit community that makes and enforces the rules at St. Joe’s generates a seemingly stricter atmosphere than at a major state school where students are just numbers.

Students tend to agree that there are a lot more rules at St. Joe’s than most schools. In the last couple of years, the University has tried to tone down the drinking scene on campus by cracking down on students who try to sneak alcohol into the dorms. Additionally, St. Joe’s has recently installed more security cameras throughout campus. The best thing to do is to follow the rules, and should you choose to disregard any, be aware of the consequences.

Meh

this is a jesuit institution. no that doesn't mean we don't party. it means that when we get caught partying its usually a slap on the wrist and a prayer. community standards is about helping the really drunk people and tolerating the minimally drunk people. but we all still get drunk. but I don't recommend pushing them. Smoke with caution, drink but not obnoxiously. be drunk, but be able to swipe in.

Not Crazy for a Small Catholic School

As long as you don't go crazy or be a jerk, you will not have to many issues. Have a lot of Public Safety officers and are more worried about student safety than busting someone. Just be careful where you park your car.
