Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

St. Joe’s offers several options when it comes to computers. Different majors may require certain laptops, and this changes every couple of years or so. Students are offered purchase and lease deals through the school at discounted prices, and many students use this option. Some students bring their own computers, and a very small amount makes it through four years without ever owning one. Sometimes it may seem a lot of the on-campus computers are occupied by people sending instant messages or writing e-mails, so a majority of serious students skip the library and head to the computer lab. The University’s wireless network has helped decrease computer traffic because people can now connect with their laptops.

A frequent complaint many students have is with the school-issued computers and the service they get when they take them to get worked on by the Tech Center. However, owning your own computer takes away the option of bringing it to the on-campus repair center if needed. When deciding on a computer option, a student should be realistic. Provided they have the monetary means, a personal computer is almost a must. Relying on campus computers is a hassle and sometimes time-consuming. But when deciding, students should take into account their particular program, lease options, and what they honestly think they will need out of a computer.

Drexel Library

When you need to use a computer there are PC's available in the Library. There are over 50 computers and there seems to be openings on most days (when its not exam time). The internet is horrible, wireless comes and goes whenever it pleases. The library provides printers and you receive the first 200 prints free. I prefer to have my own printer so I can print in my own time/room.

Computer Services at the School Are Great!

There are computer labs all over campus including in the library, the perch(our hang out spot), almost all buildings on campus. We get 200 prints a semester and if you are an athlete you get free unlimited printing in the athletes study hall and if you are in the honors program you get free unlimited printing in claver house, the honors building. Wireless access is free and is reliable most of the time and when plugged in by Ethernet the internet works great. You don't need a personal computer or printer the computer is just convenient and a printer can be to if you don't want to walk someone if pulling an all nighter writing the paper. Also there is free IT support on campus for all computers including personal and ones rented from the school.
