Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The campus has expanded but is still relatively compact. You can walk to everything on campus in five minutes or less. For most students, especially younger ones or students involved in clubs or Greek life, Campion is the center of the universe. The cafeteria is on the first floor, and the second and third floors were recently remodeled. The main library, while not the nation’s best, isn’t the worst. The business school’s library in Mandeville is very state-of-the-art, but it’s surprisingly small in the amount of space for studying or working.

Overall, St. Joe’s has a lot to offer. The school is continues to make visible efforts to modernize campus. In just the past few years, the University has built a movie theater, updated the computer lab twice, built two dormitories, renovated the radio station’s booth, and broke ground on an expansion to the field house. It has also renovated the main gym, built satellite gyms in various dorms, and added a new, very popular lounge. While a lot of the school needs updating, changes can be seen on any given day walking through campus. The recent acquisition of the new 38-acre Maguire Campus north of City Line Avenue brings an additional 52 classrooms, eight laboratories, 113 offices, 14.5 acres of playing fields, and 319 parking spaces to the University’s existing 65-acre campus.

Libraries Aren't Only for Learning

The library at Saint Joseph's University is not only a place for learning new things, but it gives students a place to interact with their friends. Recently, along with Drexel Library they have added a new Campus Commons area. The new facilities allow students to hang out in-between classes, grab a quick bite, or work on some homework for class. Even though it's a popular hangout, there are designated quiet places where students can work diligently on their schoolwork.

Go for It!

All of the athletic fields and complexes are fairly new. The school devotes a lot of time and money into these areas, especially for basketball. As for campus activities, there is ALWAYS something going on. Sometimes I feel like there is too much going on, I can't do it all! Nevertheless, with so much going on, it's pretty hard to be bored. There is a great variety in the activities that are held as well. The campus itself is gorgeous. The stonework that is on most of the buildings just makes everything look so pretty. It gives it that "old" feel even though most of the buildings are fairly new!

Favorite Things To Do

Every Tuesday night, the Forum Theater has a new movie for free—generally movies currently in theaters. During warmer weather, there are always students playing Frisbee on Campion’s lawn or hanging out in the gazebo. Almost all of the dormitories have small gyms, and the main gym in the fieldhouse was recently renovated, making it a popular midday destination.

Nothing to do between classes? Try grabbing a cup of coffee, hitting up any one of the three food centers, putting in a little time at the gym, catching a movie for free with student ID, or using any of the fieldhouse’s facilities, which include basketball, racquetball and tennis courts, and an indoor Olympic-sized pool. Campus is relatively compact, so all of these places can be reached from almost anywhere on campus in around five minutes or less.
