Greek life is a little different at St. Joe’s than most other schools. For starters, Jesuit schools banned on-campus Greek housing in the mid-1990s, so there aren’t stereotypical frat houses. Generally, members of sororities and fraternities will live together in apartments and houses, but St. Joe’s lacks the Animal House frat party scene. The Panhellenic scene traditionally shows itself in the organizations running campus events and organizing philanthropic events throughout the year. Most students involved in Greek life say date parties and formals are also some of the more memorable parts.
While Greek life is not an overwhelming force, many students turn to it for the brother-and sisterhood. Typically, frat guys throw a lot of parties in their individual houses. Sororities generally won’t throw the kind of regulated freshmen-oriented parties that the frats do, but it is not uncommon for upperclassmen to find themselves at a keg party at a sorority girl’s apartment. The best places to spot Greek life on St. Joe’s campus are during rush week, Greek week, or in front of Campion, where they sit in packs playing music and tossing Frisbees. Those not affiliated with Greek life typically know very little about the organizations. Those involved mostly say they have friends in and outside of Greek life because it doesn’t dominate life at St. Joe’s.

Frats Ans Soriorities Do Not Seem Too Popular
C
Frats and soriorities are not that popular at SJU. You do not have to be in one to fit in or have fun. People just seem to do their own thing.

Greek Life Is a Joke
C
Essentially, unless you're involved in Greek Life, you don't care about Greek Life. A very small percentage of the student population is involved in Greek Life, so it is not an important part of social life at St. Joe's at all. Frats have parties, but they are typically busted, and generally a waste of time. Sororities focus on philanthropy, which is great, but their ridiculous events and pledging antics make it difficult to take them seriously. Sororities consist of lots of ditzy girls, and the fraternities are mostly bros. I would say Greek Life is pretty stereotypical at St. Joe's, minus the reputation for throwing good parties.

Sororities Follow the Stereotype for the Most Part While Frats Tend to Be More Diverse
C-
There are 4 sororities and 4 frats at SJU. The frats usually have the best parties to go on weekends if you don't want to pay for a cab to Manayunk but some frats you need to watch out for. The sororities don't seem to do anything except sit together at lunch with their matching T-Shirts.

It’s kind of overrated here....
It’s kind of overrated here. If I had gone to a bigger university, I might have joined, but it seems like I get enough social scene without joining one. |
