Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

St. Joe’s students rate one another differently across the board, but girls tend to score a little higher. Many students disagree on the attractiveness or personalities of the opposite gender, but, for the most part, St. Joe’s is your average-looking college. It definitely has its share of cover girls and attractive guys. Two complaints seem to plague a bulk of the population, however. The guys need to be a little bit neater, and girls need to stop thinking so highly of themselves—but isn’t that how it is at most colleges?

By the end of senior year, everyone has seemed to have found a middle ground. Senior guys tend to dress a little nicer for class, and the girls, for the most part, have gotten a little more laid back personality-wise. The most important thing is to not miss being a part of the warm days on the lawn during the “one o’clock walks.” However, at the same time, don’t be one of the guys heckling the passersby. In general, the best way to get to know guys and girls at St. Joe’s is to actively make friends freshman year and join a couple groups. Very often, students say they’re not still friends with all of their pals from freshman year at the end of college, but often their freshman buddies introduced them to their current friends.

Lax Bros

it seems like the majority of the boys at sju are either lax bros or are trying to be... most girls typically dress in skin tight outfits at night and cheesy outfits or are fans of the sweatpants or class look...

What kinds of relationships have you had since coming to school?

How would you rate the social scene on campus?

Facts

Social Scene

The melting pot that is freshman year tends to slop everyone together and leave many students swimming for their lives. The cauldron is stirred by many different factors, such as majors, Greek life, and freshman housing. By sophomore year, many students will begin to find their niche and work to perfect it and their group of friends by junior year. When senior year rolls around, most students have relaxed and tend to feel camaraderie once again due to the smaller social scene and campus.

Hookups or Relationships?

Freshmen looking for relationships tend to find each other in the first three to four weeks of school. After that, a lot of hooking up continues freshman year. As students get older, many tend to get into relationships. In general, there are more girls than guys on campus. However, due to the fact that many students don't live that far from home and the surrounding area has a large college population, many girls are in relationships with guys outside of St. Joe's.

Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls

Some students will say the best place is in class while others will say they’ve never talked to a person outside of class before. In general, a lot of introductions come from friends of friends or friends of roommates. Group outings such as date parties and formals are not uncommon. Most sports teams, Greek life, and almost every club has some sort of date party or formal. The most social interaction on campus definitely occurs in front of Campion during free period. The first warm “one o’clock walk” of the spring semester is something guys and girls can’t wait for. Everyone’s looking to show off a little skin just like they had done during the early fall and will continue to do so all spring semester. In the warmer months, Campion’s lawn is filled with flying Frisbees, blasting music, and many students trying to catch some sun. While drinking on campus (if you’re of-age) is technically allowed, security is quick to shut you down— though this doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen. In the colder months, the social scene is moved inside Campion to the Crimson and Gray Cafeterias. Many students have an area they tend to sit in and the Caf can get pretty loud during a lazy winter day with everyone cooped up inside.

Dress Code

St. Joe's has a large collection of different styles. While a lot of the freshman girls want you to think they just fell out of an episode of Laguna Beach, most tend to chill out by junior year, attending class in sweats or pajama pants. Like anywhere else, some guys and girls try to dress nice all the time, and some roll to class looking like they don't know how they got there. Almost all students will pull themselves together when it's time to socialize at night.
