Don't Get Your Money's Worth

I pay over $50,000 to go to SJU and I am very disappointed. The registrar's office gave me a more than difficult time (The school year is over and some of my credits still aren't done). In addition, the food is terrible. I pay over $2,000 for a meal plan that I can't even use because the food makes me sick.

Don't come here

I chose SJU as a high school senior because of the beautiful campus, small class sizes, and the feeling of pride and excitement I felt from the student tour guides. Do not be fooled. If you are the least bit different, you will not fit in here. I can't even wear a t shirt and sweatpants to class without getting looked up and down and given snarky comments by all the rich bitches who drive around in daddy's mercedes and show up for an 8 am class in full make up, heels, and "perfect" hair. I thought I left high school but thats exactly what this school feels like - a continuation of high school. People are ignorant and racist/homophobic for the most part and it's truly sickening to even reflect on the things I've heard & witnessed. The diversity here is basically nonexistent. Seriously - if you want the college experience of meeting great friends, living in a "college town", and hanging out with people from all over the world, this is NOT the place.

Great and Caring Professor

Have loved every professor but one. They care about you as a student and as an individual. Tough for me to find anything bad to say about any of my professors so far. Very fair with grading and good at teaching. First time in my life I have look forward to going to class.

Facts

Traditions
  • Chapel Organ : It’s disputed what the actual year of construction was because it had to be built, shipped, and then reassembled, but it is widely agreed that the organ in St. Joe’s chapel is the oldest on the East Coast.
  • Class Reunion : Since St. Joe’s doesn’t have an official homecoming weekend, the University plays host to regular class reunions for random years in Campion Student Center on weekends throughout the year.
  • The Hawk : The student chosen to be the Hawk receives free tuition and board. In exchange, he or she can never stop flapping the mascot’s wings while in costume and must also attend several school functions, charity events with sports teams, and various other outings.
  • Hawk Mates : This is what two St. Joe’s alumni are called when they get married. Upon a previously scheduled request, the Hawk will show up for the reception should the couple so choose.
  • Late Night Mass : Due to a student’s hectic schedule, in addition to more traditional times during the day, St. Joe’s offers a 10 p.m. mass for students on Sunday nights in its chapel.
Urban Legends
  • Allen Iverson owns the entire 10th floor of Executive House (building adjacent to campus).
  • Aramark puts laxatives in the cafeteria food.
  • Overbrook Hall is haunted by dead babies because it used to be a maternity ward.
  • Security guards provided the booze for the Lambda Chi softball tournament with alcohol confiscated in the dorms.
  • St. Joe’s was supposed to form a law school, but a dean got drunk and forgot to sign the paperwork on deadline.
  • There’s a hot tub in an office of Campion.
