Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Some juniors are staying on campus thanks to the new buildings and townhouses, which free up a lot more off-campus apartment. Living in an off-campus house can be tough because so many in the area are large and require many roommates, which brings the added stress of sharing a kitchen and one or two bathrooms with multiple people. Students need to make the decision whether the added space, freedom, and potential fun of an off-campus house is worth it. On the other hand, apartment life is generally cheaper and you usually have to pay fewer utilities.

St. Joe’s is helpful in its own way by holding housing fairs and posting a bulletin board of available places, people looking for roommates, and other assorted announcements. In the housing office, there is a color-coded map that shows areas around St. Joe’s that the University has deemed safe and unsafe for students to live. The Housing Office has the students’ best interests in mind, but recently the office has done a lot more policing of students than assisting them with finding housing. It’s becoming increasingly difficult to live off campus, yet close to campus. The key to finding a good place is to check out the neighborhood and the landlord’s background. Also, talk to people who lived in the complex or area. Students are always the best and most honest judges.

So I Have Heard

I haven't had the chance to live off campus because I am required to be on campus since I am a freshman. But I have heard only positive things about off campus living.

Dorms :0

Picking a dorm here is like a lottery system. You may be stuck with people you do not like but you can always change it later on. Apartments under our campus are amazing! My favorite are Pennbrook and Drexal Arms. Campus houses (30-40 people) are a lot funner because there's not much security and they are cheaper compared to the resident style buildings that hold hundreds of students.

Off Campus Housing Is Easy to Find

There is an off campus housing office to help find suitable apartments or houses for lease in the vicinity of campus. Depending on what's available the price varies, but the office is always willing to help find off campus housing for upperclassman because freshman and sophomores are required to live on campus unless commuting from home.
