Transportation

Quick Stats

Best Ways to Get Around Town Your only options are to have a car or roommate with a car.
Best Ways to Get to the Airport Usually you can find a friend that will give you a ride to the airport. The ride takes about 30 minutes so its always good to toss in some gas money. Most students will do it for about $10. During semester breaks, beginning, and ends, the school does provide free shuttle service to the airport. It does not cost anything to students but you will want to reserve a seat.

Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

As far as the SLU campus goes, it's "no car, no way." Saint Leo is small enough that you can walk around without needing transportation, but as soon as you venture off the campus you are pretty much on your own. The rural landscape that surrounds University offers absolutely no transportation other than your own vehicle. Its about 1.5 miles to the small town of San Anontio. Many students who do not have a car do not mind the peaceful stroll, but if you really want to get out to enjoy fine dining, shopping, or any sort of nightlife, a car is a must.

Once upon a time, students would get together and chip in cash to rent a bus for the night that would take them out to a club or bar in downtown Tampa. The general philosphy behind this was that since Saint Leo is so far from the city it would be much safer if the students could hop on a bus, go downtown for a night, and not have to worry about driving back if were drinking. The Saint Leo security has since banned such "party buses." Their feelings were that it would entice too many underage students to partake in such activities. That being said, the school offers no means of transportation for students wishing to leave the quaint little campus. Every now and then the student activites board will run a shuttle somewhere like Busch Gardens, the movie theater, or bowling. These trips usually cost around five dollars for students and are run a few times a semester.

Naval Base

Because I attend on the Navy base, the best mode of transportation is to use a personal vehicle due to security risks.
