There really isn't any nightlife on campus because Salem has such strict rules regarding underage drinking, parties, and quiet hours, plus the fact that there is no Greek life. Most parties host small groups of close-knit friends. Co-ed schools in the area have parties that students can head to if they know the right people. There are a few bars and clubs in town that students enjoy, including The Fox and Hound and Foothills Brewery, where you don't have to be 21 to get in before 9:30 p.m. Ziggy's used to be very popular and hosted well known bands until it closed in 2007; they are currently looking for a new location within Winston-Salem. When it comes to having a night out, though, most students head over to Greensboro, which is about 30–45 minutes away, where there are several good clubs for the 18+ crowd.
The most popular clubs among Salem students are all in Greensboro. Inferno has a Wednesday college night while Arizona Pete's and Greene Street both have Thursday college nights. Salem is not much of a party school, but when friends get together they can have a lot of fun. Classes can be intense, though, and professors can be strict about attendance, so if you're the type of student who wants to be able to go out every night partying until early morning and then sleep through classes, Salem is not for you.
