Not many schools have one so I think it's pretty cool that we do.

unless you're a caucasian middle/upper class southerner – The title says it all. If you are caucasian, middle/upper class southerner that enjoy not being challenged or put out of your comfort zone, you have found the college for you. Bring your own car, so you can go home along with the majority of the students, because no one stays here over the weekends. It's a dry campus, but no worries, if you're into the drugs and alcohol scene that is here also, but be hush hush about it, because as a 'baptist' university it would be a terrible reputation breaker. Gotta watch out for that. Oh, and if you're not white, you're just not treated like an equal, but its okay because Samford absolutely loves diversity...or so they say. Sure the academics are good, but then again do you really want to spend four years of your life at a glorified high school where they have visitation rules, pest infested dorms, and a food court that doesn't stay open over the weekends?

There is great parking for people living on campus, but for commuters it is horrible.

Samford Life is awesome. You live on a beautiful campus with great workout facilites, great professors, wonderful students, and so many opportunities to get involved with!

Sunshine and Rain – It does rain quite a bit on campus, but we mostly have sunny days, and those are gorgeous.

Bars Vs. Dance Clubs – Bars here are more abundant than dance clubs. The dance clubs are sketchy and not the funnest places to visit.

Nikki's West – This restaurant has a wide variety of soul food and provides a great family atmosphere. Cost is cheap and food is great.

There are several fraternities and sororities to join. Although some Greeks think that they are better than non-Greeks, for the most part everyone is friends with everyone else. Rush week is a HUGE deal, and Greeks dress up really nicely for the football games.

There is wireless network at Samford, so you can use your laptop anywhere on campus, which is super nice. They have several computer labs in which you can print off papers for free. You need to sign in before printing, and there is a limit to how many you can print, but it is ridiculously high. They block 'bad' sites, but sometimes the websites that are blocked aren't really bad (ex: F My Life).

Health & Safety:
Campus Safety – I always feel safe on Samford's campus. It is gated, and after 10 p.m. you must enter through the gates by the guardhouse and either show your student ID or have the Samford decal on your car. There are Campus Police that patrol constantly. It is in a super safe suburb of Birmingham!

Mainly Good – Generally, it's beautiful and mild. However, when it rains it floods, making it miserable to walk across campus without rain boots.

Baptist Middle School – The rules here are very strict, and a recent campus newsletter comment accurately described the social life as resembling your average Baptist Middle School. However, it is easy to not get caught.

Off-campus dining is easy to access and is used by most students on weekends. Only a few truly give student discounds, but our location between Brookwood Mall, Homewood, and Wildwood gives plenty of restaurant options that are friendly to a college budget.

There could be more parking on campus. West Campus parking is a struggle. I think a 4-year-old designed the parking garage in West Campus. Parking tickets are expensive, ranging from $25-$100.

Night Life – Downtown Birmingham is a sketchy area, there are not to many bars, but usually house parties.

Athletic Center – Athletic Centers are up to date, modern equipment which are accessible from 6am-midnight, basically every night.

The Quad – Samford's campus is the biggest perk, in my opinion. It's absolutely gorgeous and so conducive to chill time. There are always people out there playing frisbee, lying in the sun, hanging out with friends, and even studying.

Choosing Samford was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I've never regretted coming here, and I'm reminded daily of why I love this school so much. The people here are so amazing and I've made so many lifelong relationships. I would definitely pick Samford again, as well as recommend it to anyone considering coming here.

Hard to Find Quality – Although there is an abundance of apartments available in the Birmingham area, most are of poor quality. I am very interested in safety as my number one necessity for off-campus housing. Luckily there are some apartments that offer quality and safety but usually for a hefty price.

Printing on Campus – In the past, we had complete freedom to print whatever we wanted and it did not cost anything (besides tuition to attend school). This year, they implemented a new "credit" system. There are pros and cons to the new program. For my major, I am required to print a good bit of information and with only a limited amount of printing allowed, I have to pick and choose what I think is the best information to print. It is good though because people are printing less, thus saving some trees.

Preparing for the Future Is Tough – Although Samford University is an accredited Baptist university, the professors typically teach their class un-biasedly. Professors do not try to make students agree with their religious beliefs but instead are open to differences. The differences and ways of expressing them are a unique part of the Samford curriculum.

Not a Lot to Do. Birmingham is a mildly big city, but for such a big city there isn't much entertainment for college students.

After freshmen year the only way to receive scholarship money is through your department and most of the time that is not very much either.

Drug Scene – Samford is a dry campus although alcohol still finds its way onto the campus. Drinking is not nearly as heavy here as at most schools and the rules about no alcohol on campus are strictly enforced.

Health & Safety:
Campus Safety – I have never felt unsafe on Samford's campus. It has a very clean and safe atmosphere. Campus security is always around and willing to help in any way possible. We also have call boxes conviently located all over campus in case of emergency.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
