There is not enough parking in certain areas, so there tends to be quite a walk.

Dry Campus – Samford is a dry campus where there are to be no alcohol or drugs or weapons. Sometimes, Greek parties will have alcohol, but most of those parties get busted. I have witnessed a few cases where off-campus guests brought in alcohol and were fined and also arrested for being under 21. It is a strict rule in which public safety will abide by if they receive a tip that someone has alcohol or drugs or any weapons.

Samford's main library is one of the best libraries. On the down side, it is a pretty sketchy walk to get there during the night. There is also a gym (one for recreation and one for working out), indoor pool, recreation center, law library, Hub, caf, food court, and coffee house. The downside is that these are easy to get to from the people who live in Central Campus, but for those who live in West Campus or Beeson Woods, the walk to these places is a little shady when you are walking by yourself at night.

Many classes are rigorous to provide a vast amount of knowledge to everyone. Samford does have the right to withdraw a student if they go below a 2.0 average and show no signs of improving their GPA in order to maintain its reputation of being a high quality school.

More Diverse Than You Would Think – Although Samford is prodominately full of Christians because it is a private Christian college, there are many different religions and beliefs represented among the students and professors. Also, in the core classes you learn a lot about different religions and different cultures which really opens your view on things.

School Experience – I would choose my school all over again because I love my professors and classes. I love the people I have met, but second semester has shown to be even better as I meet new people and solid friendships form. I wish the student body did more, but overall Samford is becoming more active as a student body.

Guys & Girls:
Too Many Girls – There are just too many girls at Samford. The guys are either anti-social or douches who can afford to be players. The Greek life is becoming more present and you know who is and who is not Greek. Ultimately, college is as fun as you make it. There are plenty of good people and different types of people, but you have to seek them out.

Though I am still a freshman, I know a lot of people who live off campus in either a house or an apartment. Birmingham has a lot to offer, but I am not sure about the cost. Also, a negative aspect of off campus housing is that you cannot move off until you are twenty-one, which means, in some cases you have to wait for all your friends to turn twenty-one.

Health & Safety:
B for Safety? Campus crime is not too bad, there have been some problems. There are definitely some parts of campus that I do not feel comfortable walking around at night.

Lots of Scholarship Money – There is a lot of scholarship money at Samford. They made it cheaper for me to go here than a state school, and the process was very simple.

Watch Out for Values Violations – You can get a values violation for almost anything: jumping in the fountains, throwing water balloons, having boys in your room, drinking, etc. It's better just to avoid it all together.

Last semester it rained a lot. A lot. Pretty much every day. However, this semester it has been sunny and warm and it's really not bad at all. I would suggest buying a rain jacket (boots for girls are popular...too popular). An umbrella probably won't cut it but is useful anyway. Overall, it's just like any other Southern weather.

You Need a Car – Samford really has no public transportation options. The campus is easy enough to get around without a car or bike even. If you are planning on going anywhere in Birmingham, though, it is best if you have your own car. You can get rides with your friends who have cars, but that can be inconvenient.

Pretty Good for a School Cafeteria – Yes, the cafeteria gets repetitive like most cafeterias, but you can always be creative and find something new to eat. Also, the cafeteria staff are very interested in fulfilling any requests for new food items that students have. I have seen several changes this year. There are several places close by to eat off-campus and, of course, the food court is always tasty!

Some but Not a Lot – There are some good places to go to eat close to campus, but unless you want to go inside the mall, there isn't a whole lot.

So Much to Do – There is a lot to do in Birmingham. It is a fairly large city. There is a lot of shopping areas, the Vulcan, Birmingham zoo, botanical gardens, and more.

They were not helpful at all for me. Even before freshman year, I did everything I could to get scholarships and only received $1000. Then I went to ask for help when my father lost his job and got very little help. It is quite difficult to work with them.

Not Bad – I disagree with a majority of the student population on the fact that they are stict. It really is not that bad but I don't drink or misuse my time with guys in my room. So really I have not had any problems other than the parking issue. Parking areas are small and the campus safety writes tickets like none other, but its really not a bad campus.

Guys & Girls:
The Ratio Is Horrible – The guy to girl ratio is about three girls for every guy. Most of the time you have to be dating one of them to be able to be friends. Most of the guys on campus are preppy, upper class and, based on my experience, jerks. However, there are a handful of really great guys. The girls are about fifty percent preppy sority girls and the other half are down to earth and fun. The girls on campus usually dress up far too much and usually not in the most approriate clothing.

Samford has some Greek life. There are definitely other groups to get involved in besides Greek life, but it is also very popular among those who do it, so it really depends on the person. Greeks have housing but only some of their members stay there.

Samford has very little variety. Because so many students are of similar race, ethnicity, and religion, people feel obligated to be just like the crowd and often fake it even if they are not like that just to fit in. Often students leave Samford because they do not fit into the norm. I feel like there are many accepting students of other cultures which help them to feel comfortable but diversity is limited.

The campus cafeteria has decent food with a variety of options. However, sometimes the options begin to feel repetitive. The food court offers other options, but these are limited to a few fast food and sandwich restaurants. It is definitely decent and there is enough food and options to keep me satisfied.

So far my experience has been great. I have made a ton of new friends and I couldn't be happier.

Neither are allowed on our campus, but they still exist. I think it really depends on who you are around; they are obviously still around, but you have to physically search for that kind of thing.

School Spirit – School spirit can be really great on big games, but non-existent for others.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
