Sporting events at Samford are fun to watch, but, unfortunately, not very popular among students. Most fans enjoy football games the most and quickly fill up the student section at home games. A huge advantage Samford has over other colleges is its free sporting event admittance for Samford students, encouraging campus to gain more team spirit through frequent attendance. The official Bulldog Fight Song, played every time Samford scores a touchdown or field goal, is a fantastic example of team spirit in the stands. One cannot mention Samford football without giving a shout-out to the extremely talented and entertaining marching band, cheerleaders, dance team, and color guard (whose members twirl flags). The marching band's theme this year was Aerosmith, so all of their half-time songs were well known. The energetic cheerleaders and dance team choreograph very impressive steps to go along with many musical interludes, and the color guard also does a great job with its complicated routines.
Besides football, there are excellent basketball, baseball, track, tennis, golf, soccer, softball, lacrosse, and volleyball teams. This provides entertainment for the true sports fans every season of the year. Tickets for each sport are fairly cheap for non-students compared to state schools, enabling families of students to come out and watch without it being too expensive.
