College Prowler Take

Marijuana has a large following here at San Diego State and alcohol an even larger one. Other than those two substances, there are not many other drugs used heavily. Occasionally, you will here about or see someone snorting cocaine, popping ecstasy, or taking OxyContin. It all depends on what circles you run in. Hardcore drug use, the kind Hunter S. Thompson would be proud of, is not the norm. If you truly want to get into some heavy stuff, I’ve been told that you can find it. On the contrary, if you want to surround yourself in a clean and drug-free environment, you could just as easily do that.

Like many campuses, drugs are fairly common and accessible if you come in contact with the right people. In 2008, San Diego State was nationally noticed for the infamous drug bust occurring on campus, referred to as Operation Sudden Fall. The six-month prolonged investigation centered on several San Diego State fraternity houses brought about the arrest of 96 individuals, 75 of which were San Diego State students. Home grown marijuana, cocaine, and ecstasy were some of the illegal drugs dealt on campus.

As most of the country knows, SDSU is not exactly a drug-free campus. Any given person could smoke, and a lot of people are into harder stuff. Not to give them a bad name, but if you know people in the Greek system and you're into something, it would probably be a little easier for you to get what you're looking for. Drinking is more popular for the general population, but drugs aren't a rarity.

It’s there. Drugs on campus are much like they are in society. If you want them, you can get them. If you don’t want them, you can avoid them.
