the area surrounding campus is sort of dangerous and expensive

How far is sdsu from the gaslamp district?

There is a safe and quiet residential area 1 Mile East of SDSU, by Alvrado Trolley Station. Visit www.SDSUrental.com for housing options.

The Gaslamp is downtown San Diego and you can get there by trolley from SDSU or if you have access to a car then it's about a 15 min drive.

Housing is expensive and the crime rate is high. I would not feel safe living near campus.

You can find decent rent if you're willing to share your bedroom. If you want your own bedroom near campus then it's about $600-650/month.

What is the name of the apartment complex? I need a place to live if i decide to transfer to sdsu and the place you described sounds nice! if you know of any other apartment complexes that you'd recommend let me know those too please:)
