Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Public transportation around San Diego is extremely convenient, though unpopular and unappealing to students because of the interesting and unusual crowd typically on board. The bus station is located on the south side of campus, and the trolley passes through San Diego State’s campus. The MTS Trolley system is perfect for students without a car. Routes go as far south to the border, east to Santee, and as far west as downtown. Stops include major shopping districts like Mission Valley and Fashion Valley, the city’s major land mark (Old Town), and Qualcomm Stadium—home of the San Diego Chargers. The main downfall of the trolley system is that the service ends fairly early during both the weekend and weeknights. On the other hand, an all day pass with unlimited rides costs $5. If you get stuck downtown because the trolley service ended for the night, avoid taxi cabs—their fees are outrageous.

If you have a car, it makes it that much easier as everything in San Diego is no more than a 35-minute drive in all directions. However, if you drink, know that there are random sobriety check points scattered through the college area. Always take precaution, and never drink and drive.

Parking

Parking is time-consuming at the start of each semester but is relatively easy and accessible any other time. On Tuesdays and Thursdays the traffic from the parking structures to Montezuma or College Ave. is terrible.

Parking Is Good

In my campus a lot of students drive themselves to school, but we also have a great public transit system. Personally, i take the trolley to school and its convenient in the sense that i do not have to waste and money on gas because i buy the semester pass which is $155. I have friends that they drive to campus, and the only thing they complain is about the availability of parking spaces, which is not a problem for me. Probably the only negative comment i have about public transportation is the time i have to sit in a trolley. It can be annoying sometimes but for the most part i can always study or do homework on my way to school or back.
