Santa Clara is generally very lenient in all aspects of a student's academic and social life on campus. I would say that our school is very open to everyone's opinions and lets students take matters into their own hands, such as visiting hours in dorms. Unless things get out of hand and are disrupting the general peace on campus, the administration is quite lenient in the strictness aspect.

The Greek life at Santa Clara University is a lot different than the typical Greek system at much larger schools. There are only 4 sororities and 3 fraternities here and it is generally not a huge deal at all. Coming from someone who is in the greek system myself, I think it is a great way to meet more people and become involved in all of the activities, events, and community work that the chapter does. However, I don't see it as a necessary way to meet people and have fun in the social scene on campus.

Health & Safety:
The general safety of Santa Clara University is pretty good considering the fact that the surrounding neighborhood just outside campus is not the best. However, it is pretty safe to walk around campus alone. There are also numerous emergency phone booths situated around campus that always have someone ready to respond to an incident or suspicion. I personally have never felt threatened during my time here at Santa Clara.

Present, but Unaffiliated. The university no longer affiliates or funds the Greek chapters. However, Greek life is still very much present in campus social life. There are four social sororities and four social fraternities, as well as multi-cultural and business fraternities. It is not difficult to make friends if you are not involved, but, as a guy, it definitely helps with your social life as you are able to get into more parties. Girls can get into any party, so it is not as much of an issue. Greek life here is mainly just for a better social life and while they do positive things for the community, service and scholarship is definitely not as much of a priority as it may be at other schools. I would estimate that around a third of the school is involved in Greek life, so it by no means dominates the social scene, but it is nice to be a part of.

Definitely Safe – I always feel safe on campus. I often walk back to my dorm from the library in the middle of the night and I've never felt uncomfortable. I don't even worry about leaving my door locked all the time.

Medical Amnesty Is Great! I have never felt unsafe on campus and doubt I would even if I were to walk home alone late at night. The Campus Safety department is extremely active on campus and is always willing to help. Students are generally concerned with one another's safety and, as a result of the recent implementation of Medical Amnesty, students can seek medical help for a friend or fellow student without risking disciplinary consequences. Crime is extremely limited and the most extreme it gets is people stealing food from the refrigerators in the dorm kitchens. Needless to say, crime is very tame here, campus safety takes their job seriously and students always feel safe.

Best of Both Worlds – Santa Clara is unique in that it offers a small, tight-knight community in which you will see familiar faces every day, but also are able to make new friends constantly. The social life rivals that of a large university. This is great because it is the perfect combination for students looking for attention and small class sizes in their academic programs, but who also want an active social life with plenty of networking opportunities. The facilities are top notch and are all eco-friendly. Many students joke that the campus looks like a country club and, with the amazing landscaping, palm trees and pristine buildings, they are not far off. Additionally, Santa Clara's location is perfect. While in a small town, San Jose, San Francisco and Santa Cruz are all extremely close by and provide plenty of opportunities for fun off-campus. Overall, it is a great place to go to school and would be a great fit for students who love to work hard and play hard.

Work Hard, Play Hard. Coming to Santa Clara, I had no idea it would be such a party school. Given the small town location and lack of bars and other nightlife around, students tend to party a lot in the off-campus apartments and houses. There is always an event going on every night of the week so if you are looking for something to do, I guarantee you will find it! The Greek houses, although unaffiliated with the school, throw lots of fun, themed parties which are open to everyone. Day parties are huge here, given the nice weather, and I have enjoyed them much more than the typical house parties. As far as the bar/club scene, there are a few bars nearby that students frequent and are easy to get in to with a fake ID. However, the prices for the drinks are extravagant as the owners know the students have no other option. Transportation to the bars and other nightlife in the area is not a huge concern as everything is within walking distance. Santa Clara is definitely not in a city with an active nightlife, but the students know how to have fun and there are always great parties.

Convenient, Safe and Moderately Priced – For Silicon Valley, prices for off-campus housing are very reasonable. The majority of students choose to live off campus for their junior and senior years. When they move off campus, they will move either to the Domicilio Apartments or rent any of the houses on Bellomy, Lafayette or surrounding streets. There are so many options available within close proximity to campus and students say if they live more than three blocks away, nobody will visit them--they are not joking! Additionally, Santa Clara is a very safe area and I know of nobody who is concerned to live off campus. The biggest problem with off-campus housing would be parking in that it is very limited, especially for those who rent houses and have to share 1-2 parking spots with a whole house. The Santa Clara PD will cite like crazy so, if you do park on the street, be sure to never exceed the time limit! Overall, you will love living off-campus as it is inexpensive, convenient and safe.

IT Services Are Great! The University is located in the heart of the Silicon Valley and it shows in the IT availability on campus. There are plenty of computers available in the library and WiFi is fantastic campus wide.

This school get awesome weather making the campus look much more beautiful. Although in the winter there are heavy rains, the summer brings plenty of heat to make up for it. Great weather to go out and swim in the pool on campus.

Buses and Trains Are Your Best Friends – I have been a commuter for 2 years now and let me tell you the bus and the train have both been my best friends. Last year I only commuted on the train, I loved it because it got me to where I needed to go in no time. Since the train fair went up this year, I have been taking the VTA bus to and from home. It is much cheaper but it is double the amount of time. They are both extremely convenient because they are both located right across the street from the school entrance.

Never Lived on Campus – I haven't lived on campus but I can say that the people that I know that do live here have a blast.

Check Out Henry's – Their burritos are amazing! I thought I knew a restaurant that gave better burritos but then I went to Henry's and man is the price worth it. I always get my burrito with a coke in a bottle, that is the best lunch one can have. And the best part is that it is right across the street from the Alumni Science building, I mean how much more convenient can it get.

We Suck – Our teams suck and no one goes to the games. We have one big basketball game a year against Gonzaga but that's pretty much it. Our fans desperately want a team to cheer for that puts out a quality product. Unfortunately that hasn't happened in a long time.

People Just Chill – Not too many popular hangouts, most people chill at one of the many off campus houses and drink beers.

Good for Getting a Job in Silicon Valley – The professors all have tech backgrounds it seems and have lots of great experience and contact in Silicon Valley. If your looking for a marketing career in the tech industry, Santa Clara is historically a great feeder school for just that.

Do Not Go to This School – Lots of alcohol, bars are very cheap and it is very easy to go out and binge drink if you are into it.

There is the Cal-train station across campus, and public buses available for getting to places that students would need to go.

From a Non-Greek Perspective – I feel that students with a Greek life allow the activity to interfere with school work. Their priorities and schedule revolve around their Greek life rather than academics.

Good Variety – Off campus dining includes many different cuisines as well as fast food restaurants and dessert shops. Prices aren't cheap, but it's not expensive either. Blondies ice cream is good and so is Toppings Tree (huge portions).

There are never bad enough conditions that really make it impossible to get around campus. There are just a few nights that it rains alot but thats about it.

Alcohol Usage – Drinking is really popular, as everyone when they are out looking for a party or at a party are drunk, and since the parties are pretty bad, people just usually get drunk so it can be somewhat fun.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
