Benson's food quality is above the average college dorm food. They also deliver to the dorm rooms for late night snacks which is a bonus. However, it can get boring by the end of the year.

SCU is very strict on school policies. They review & revise their academic policies & vision regularly and ask for input from students. They are anal about parking as well. They tend to give out a lot of tickets if they don't find a permit and rarely are lenient or accept excuses.

There are so many food choices around SCU it's like food heaven. There are many places within walking distance but many are within a short 5-15 minute drive. The cost of off-campus food is cheaper than on campus and the quality & quantity is usually better. El camino real has mostly Asian food, specifically Korean, Japanese, and Chinese. If you head towards San Jose, there's more American food.

Public health is a fairly new program at SCU so there is limited class and space. It's really hard to get these classes unless you're in the major and pre-enrolled.

Great professors who are very interested in you and your life. They are there for you so get to know them! The variety of classes that are offered is great and very helpful in stimulating (social) awareness & helps in personal development/discovery. The bad things about classes are sometimes they fill up quickly, or they are offered during certain quarter. Also, I think we should move towards white boards rather then chalk boards. Some department, like chemistry, need bigger offices since many professors have to share.

SCU had a community and safe atmosphere. It's easy to get around and a small campus so you get to see many familiar faces frequently. There are a variety of food places around SCU that are within walking distance. Valley Faire Mall is only a 5-10 minute drive from SCU as well. There's cal train across SCU for transportation as well as zip cars (rental cars).

The good at SCU is either not good or average and overpriced. I rather eat off campus. Down el camino real, there are so many choices that are way better tasting and worth the price.

I'm a Chemistry major and personally, I love the Chem program at SCU. It is definitely underrated but all of the professors (so far) are incredible and so dedicated to their work. My career goals are eventually medical school and I am hoping this will prepare me, especially since I am not so strong on Biology. However, stick to your passions and the program you choose will be perfect for you.

Benson is Benson. A typical cafeteria. Very overpriced and the meals get boring sometimes, but overall it is a great environment, clean and does the job. Good options even if they don't change often.

Campus security and CF's are fair. If you are caught with illegal substances in your room, you will get busted. The cops have gotten a lot more stricter than last year (what I hear from upperclassmen). I have never been in trouble so I cannot comment on discipline policies.

Guys & Girls:
There are all sorts of people at Santa Clara University. I have met other ravers, nerds, as well as jocks, bookworms, drama queens. In general, Santa Clara is well rounded in diversity. Everyone grows and joins in the California lifestyle.

In just an hour train ride, you can be anywhere in Silicon Valley, including San Francisco. There are a few off campus food choices, and there is a theme park about 10 minutes away.

I bought the E parking pass, meant for commuter students and there really is only one parking garage you can use. It's close to the library though! They are currently building another.

I'm in the Classics department, and it's so small and intimate that you're likely going to have an ongoing relationship with professors. They are very kind and accommodating. They can be rough graders but they get you to where you need to be to get that A.
College Sophomore 2013-06-02T22:08:15Z
places are easy to get to. All within walking distance. Better to know people at houses than to go and wander. Overall solid!

Gotta love that California sunshine! It's hot in the summer and not too cold in the winter.

I love the Classics department here! It's one of the only Bay Area schools with Classics and the teachers in the department are amazing. With Classics, there is always the "What will you do with that" question lingering, but the professors have assured me many students have gone on to do jobs both in and out of the field and that Bay Area tech companies love hiring SCU Humanities students.

Health & Safety:
I feel very safe on campus. I have worked late nights as a tutor and even felt secure walking to my car after 11pm!
College Junior 2013-05-27T21:27:23Z
Most of the houses about a block East off-campus are very expensive, even when they have 10 people living in them. Even a double can cost upwards of $700/month rent. These houses also tend to be worn down and dirty as a lot of partying goes on in them. There is a mix of regular houses, townhomes, and apartments. The farther away from campus you get (2-3 blocks) the nicer and less expensive the houses get. Also, living on the North-ish side of campus is cheaper and nicer as well.

SCU has quite a lot of parking available on-campus, from many lots by the dorms to the big parking garage located by the library and Leavey Athletic Center. The permit cost for living in the dorms is around $300 for the full year, and you will be assigned a permit to the closest lot to your dorm. They other lots, such as the parking garage and ones available for commuters are not quite as expensive. However, there is no overnight parking. During the weekends, you can park anywhere on campus all day and over night for free - this is perfect for visiting friends or parents as they don't have to worry about parking somewhere far off-campus. Freshman are not allowed to have parking permits, so if you choose to bring your car you will have to petition for one or park off-campus.
College Junior 2013-05-27T21:13:47Z
I am giving SCU a C+ because the campus is fairly strict, but not to the point where you cannot get away with anything, and worrying about your safety is never an issue. Underage drinking in the dorms is strictly prohibited, and if you are caught you get a write-up. Write-ups are also given for excessive noise, rowdy behavior, and drugs. This includes a fine and a meeting with the Resident Director, and can also include community service and an essay. Three write-ups are grounds for being kicked out of housing, so if you are going to drink in the dorms be very discreet, and keep the wild behavior to a minimum! Some of the Community Facilitators are pretty lax on giving out write-ups, but others are not. So get to know your CF and you will be able to figure out what you can and cannot get away with.

This place is diverse but you have to get actively involved in finding diversity.

they have some new dorms that are a little bigger and they have a bathroom shared by 4 people which is nice they have apartments and houses nearby for upper classmen

Classes are pretty easy. I would even say I'm having a easier time here than I did in high school. Honestly, standards seem fairly low to me and some students here struggle to meet them. Business classes here are pretty great, not really a fan of other classes.
Recent Alumnus 2013-05-12T06:50:15Z
a lot of spaces but pretty expensive in my opinion. Also, since the San Jose Earthquakes play at our stadium, occasionally parking will be limited to Earthquake VIP's from about 430 pm. Pretty dumb if you ask me
Sorry, there are no reviews.
