There is always computer available in the library. I have yet to experience midterm and finals season here, but most people have their own computers connected to the campus-wide WiFi, so I don't think it would be a problem having access to a computer if you don't own one.

Santa Clara has a big social life and this means that there is a wide array of drugs and alcohol being used. If you wanted to get alcohol or drugs, it would be very easy to do. Drugs, however, are a little more kept secret

Health & Safety:
I have always felt safe at Santa Clara. They have an abundant number of campus safety who are constantly making sure the campus as well as the students are safe. However, there are a few crimes that happen off campus that keep this school from being completely safe.

Punishments Depend on the Situation – The Santa Clara Police department is right next to school so parties do get busted fairly often, but as long as you keep it cool and don't carry any open drinks along the street they won't bother you. As for the campus safety, they are strict but it depends on the situation. Some people have told me they were written up for carrying alcohol while others just had to pour out what they had and go home. At SCU you get 3 write up strikes, and then you are kicked out of housing if you are living on campus. I enjoyed my time in my dorm and was pretty wild but I never got written up. Some friends of mine were written up when they were innocent but just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Some tips, just keep your cool and don't advertise anything, noise attracts both the cops and campus safety.

Not So Good – the campus is a distance from downtown most of the clubs are at and even then most clubs are 21 and over. Some students on campus will throw a party here and there and they tend to be somewhat entertaining.

It appears that much of the student body comes from fortunate upbringing.

Every type of transportation that one needs is readily available and for extremely reasonable prices. One could easily get away with not bringing a car.

Since the school is so small, the living off campus is entirely manegable with a social life. One will find that they will not lose touch of their friends, but rather make even more; there is no isolation. The cost is about the same as living on campus when food and bills are added in. There is plenty of availability and many options; people do not ever seem to be unhappy with where they end up. The landlords are pretty lenient, since they have owned the houses for a long time. Also, the off campus living is extremely close to campus!

The weather is absolutely phenominal, for it stays at a perfectly warm temperature basically all year long. There is a breeze that keeps it cool, but plenty of sun shinning down to keep you warm. It rains a few times during the school year, but its the perfect amount.

Big on Sports – Scu has great athletic facilities. The team spirit is great and the biggest thing is the fan support. In each game the cheers and support from the student body is awesome!

You can get a parking permit but that is kind of expensive. There is parking near school that are 2 hr or 4 hr parking those are convenient, however, they get full quickly. It is a good idea to go twenty minutes before class to make sure you have time to find a spot and go to class.

There are several apartments by SCU that can work for anyone. There are also always houses that rent rooms. Finding a place by Santa Clara is not that hard.

There are people from different races and religion but school consists of mostly white students.

Somewhat Diverse – Santa Clara is a very diverse university, but it still seems to have less latino minority students. To my understanding, they admit a certain percentage of Latinos to make up to the standard minority acceptance law, but there is still a lot more white, asian, and middle eastern students at SCU.

Health & Safety:
Great Security System – On Campus security is always on the watch and always imporving their secuirty system. They are available 24/7 and have given various ways to be reached, such as phones located around campus, and emergency number sposted on walls and restrooms around campus.

Great Proffessor-Student Relationship – Santa Clara has a focus on creating a one on one relationship with students and their professors which helps immensely when students are in need of help, or are behind in some of the material. The professors are really attentive and do try to help as much possible and offer many alternatives for students to contact them. They may give long office hours, personal emails, and even personal phone numbers. Some professors encourage students to give them a call if they have any questions or concerns. I definitely love this about Santa Clara.

Always Something Happening – If you're not the type to make friends in the classroom, there are tons of events to help with that. From dorm based events to spontaneous football games in the field, there's bound to be at least 1 event that you can get yourself into and meet new people. The people at Santa Clara University (both faculty and students) always seem so willing to help others and make friends that it truly was a wonderful experience being there.

For Freshman Without a Car, There Isn't Much – Walking distance from the university only has a few dining places: Subway, Taco Bell, Safeway. Driving will get you to all the delicious places in Valley Fair and Santana Row, and a Chipotle a couple miles down Almaden.

Its Improving. Slowly. Diversity, amongst many definitions, means racial diversity which is to mean having blacks and hispanics. And operating under that definition since it is still valid, SCU has been seeing more blacks, Hispanics, Indians and Middle Easterners, Asians, and even Swedish exchange students. However, notice the grade. Yes, thats a C-, something not really to be proud of. I give it that because as you walk around campus, youll probably notice that despite the small diversity, the majority of students or most noticeable of students, is the white, upper-middle/upper class blonde valley girl/person. Its simple economics, unfortunately. Due to the exuberant and unnecessarily high tuition, a larger number of people from the aforementioned background can afford it than those from economically disenfranchised or unfortunate can afford. Thus, more white folks. Its a sad reality, but once you get to meet your friends, its not so bad actually.

Sports Are Not Our Forte – Coming from a private high school who's basketball team won the State championship against public schools, I was running on a sports high when I came to SCU, looking and expecting a superb athletics department (or at least teams good enough to have an awesome crowd and school spirit section). I was disappointed. Don't suffer from what I did: recognize that SCU sports suck, and that theyre only good if youre hammered or with a bunch of friends or the occasional good basketball game. Consider yourself warned...

New, Nice, Expensive Buildings – Buildings at SCU seem to be the administration's pride and joy. Just look at the Library, the Levy School of Business, or the new Admissions building. Due to the fact that we're currently in a building campaign, alot of new buildings and plans are popping up so the facilities at SCU, I must say-despite my criticisms- are state of the art and are quite nice. Just try to see beyond them.

On Campus, Drugs Are Not Very Common – SCU's drug policy is pretty strict, so that translates to people not really doing them on campus. Now, since the campus culture is only limited to freshmen and sophomores (most juniors and seniors live off campus), youre first two years will be relatively free from drugs if you so choose, and if youre seeking them, they will be very easy to find (off campus of course). However, since this question asks the Drug Safety policy of SCU, I'd rate it an A- for being pretty safe.

Health & Safety:
Always Safe – Santa Clara University has always felt safe. Its not too big and everything is kept nice and clean. Even at night the campus is well lit and there are security posts all around campus in case you ever need help, its just the push of a button away.

Being such a small and closed off campus, Sant Clara affords students and faculty the ability to walk from one side of campus to the other in under 20 minutes. In other words, driving to class is unneccesary. As far as off campus housing goes, there is 24 hour parking in numerous places that students use to park their cars.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
