The drug scene at SCU is miniscule compared to most colleges. There is some hallucinogenic use, but it’s pretty covert. Every once in a while you hear about someone doing cocaine. Hard drug (heroin, crack) use is nonexistent. Prescription painkillers are somewhat common in a few circles. There is a fair amount of trafficking of study aides like Adderall and Ritalin among students, especially during finals week. However, the only drug that is prevalent around campus is marijuana.

Marijuana is widely used by SCU students. If you searched every off-campus student apartment or house, you would probably find weed or paraphernalia in most. This may be because high-quality grass is easy to come by in the area. California has experienced efforts to legalize medical marijuana, most of which have been based in the Bay Area. Because of this, much of the marijuana available comes from Cannabis Clubs or home growers, and is therefore quite potent, and considered relatively safe. Of course, you can never be completely sure what you are getting from a drug dealer. But all in all, drug use among students is neither extensive nor particularly threatening.

Well, you might have a problem if you wanted crack or something. But how many college students smoke crack anyway?
