College Prowler Take
While the student body is, on average, rather attractive, some students seem pessimistic about this category. Most of their complaints are actually about the nightlife or Greek system. They feel that the social scene is not conducive enough to hooking up, which may be true to some extent. Combined with the small size of the school and the RLC system that groups students together in both classes and the dorms, one’s options can seem narrower than they really are. The social scene is rather limited, but it is also open enough that meeting new people is not at all difficult if you try. It also helps to explore many fronts—parties, of course, but also clubs, athletic events, and classes. Since the student body is around 60 percent female, the guys have slightly wider options than the girls.
Pledging with a fraternity or sorority freshman year ensures that you will have plenty of opportunities to interact with drunk members of the opposite sex, but since they will mostly be other Greeks, it can have a limiting effect on your selection as well. Also, the benefits of going Greek drop off once everyone settles into their own niche, so think about it before you decide. Whatever you decide, keep in mind that Santa Clara is not a huge party school, so random hookups are not as common as they are at some schools. That being said, it is college, so of course they happen.

One thing that surprises me, since we’re such as small school, is how little mingling there is with non-Santa Clara students. Sometimes people from San Jose State come around, but not that much. So if you look at your classmates and don’t like what you see, tough luck. That’s what you have to work with. |

The social scene here isn’t conducive to meeting people and hooking up. You’re options (socially) are pretty limited, so you tend to see the same people all the time. |

Most of the guys are cool. From my experience, the hot girls are often snobby, stupid, and rich, but there are exceptions. |

There is a perception that nobody here really dates. It’s kind of true; at least I can’t think of very many people with significant others. |

Social Scene
This is a big concern for most incoming freshmen. It helps that all the dorms are coed, and the RLC system makes it likely that you will live near many of the people you have class with. If you want to meet a variety of people at the beginning of the year, you can always join a bunch of clubs you have no intention of actively participating in. The social scene is based on house parties, which are usually non-exclusive except for some frat parties.

Dress Code
Styles vary on campus, but they can be generally classified according to certain groups. Male Styles – Major. Fun Fact about Wearer. (Footwear): Frattastic – Business/Marketing. An ugly girl threw up in his mouth at a house party freshman year. (Doc Martens) Casual – English. Took first test of collegiate career still drunk from the preceding Tuesday night—failed. (New Balance) Hippie – Religious Studies. Drove 2006 Jeep Liberty to Berkeley to protest nation’s dependence on foreign oil. (No shoes) Female Styles – Sample Top/Bottom. What it Says about Her. (Peak Season*): Party Girl – Tank top/miniskirt with neon red thong visible. I’m three cups of jungle juice away from puking in a Sig Pi’s mouth. (Fall) Wallflower – Sweatshirt/jeans. The Freshman 15 is NOT a myth. (Winter) Girl Next Door – Tight sweater/tight jeans. I’m more intelligent than that lush in the thong. What a slut. (Spring) *Note – It is possible for a single student to employ two or even all three styles, sometimes in a single year.
