Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

While having a car at SCU has several advantages, it's definitely not cheap. Parking permits cost $250 per year, and meter maids regularly hand out fines ranging from $50 to $75 for unauthorized parking or expired time. Because parking restrictions are so strictly enforced, students who park around campus usually have to move their cars several times during the day.

Finding parking can be difficult, but it's not impossible. Spots fill up quickly, but many students who live near campus choose to hedge their bets on finding an off-campus spot rather than spring for a campus parking permit. On the other hand, students living on campus find that it's a good idea to purchase a permit, as many campus lots are located near the dorms and provide a convenient place to keep cars overnight.

If You Have a Car...

There are plenty of spaces on campus or near by to park your car. It's not necessary to buy a parking permit, and your car is very safe in the area.

Averaged Price, but Still Best to Park Off Campus

Parking on campus is expensive, but it is average with pretty much any other college or university. However, you can park right off-campus for free and it is a short walk. You can walk the whole Santa Clara campus in 10 minutes and you will be able to find parking within 2 blocks of the campus for free.

Parking

A permit cost is $250 year-round for most parking spaces. The B on has spaces all over campus so I'm not sure if the cost is more. The parking spaces are very tight and easy to hit another car. The availability of spaces are usually good. My advice is to go early.

Getting a Parking Permit

All parking permits are issued by Campus Safety, and sophomores and upperclassmen usually don't have a hard time getting one. Freshmen aren't allowed to have cars on campus, but they can apply for a waiver if they can prove extenuating circumstances require an exception.
